We came here from Yellowstone and spent two nights here before heading to the airport. We had booked late and were only able to get a room with a shared bath. I worried that this would be awful. But we liked the price of the room. It was NOT awful. The shared bathrooms were clean and there were at least three within a quick walking distance from our room. The best thing about this place is the hot springs and the dining!! We woke up early- treated ourselves to a nice cup of coffee in the hotel lobby- and spent the early morning soaking in the hot springs. I booked two nights in their dining room. The menu is pricey but the food was unbelievable. Their chef deserves major kudos! We spent our day driving back into Yellowstone National Park and hiking. It's an easy 45 minute drive. There are plenty of types of rooms/cabins at this resort. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the single rooms. I would certainly recommend this place!

We were looking for a great place to eat outside of Yellowstone and found Chico at the referral of a close friend. When we called for dinner reservations we were delighted to get a room as well . The accommodation were great, clean , and a great Mountain View. We enjoyed the afternoon sipping a mint julep by the spring fed pool. The 5 star dinner was outstanding with a team on at least 6 people waiting on us. We definitely hope to return some day.

Went for a visit after rafting down the Yellowstone river in Gardiner. We had been on the road camping for about 2 weeks so we were really looking forward to a soak. I won’t say we were disappointed, however we weren’t all that impressed either. In my head, I can’t wrap my head around if you had that much hot water and a beautiful location, why build 2 rectangle pools in the same way you would a city pool. As we sat in the pools we kept saying, why wouldn’t they make this look nicer. Why are we looking at these ugly walls instead of the beautiful views just on the other side of the walls. Why do they have 20+ signs everywhere in 20+ different fonts. Why do you have to enter the pools through the bar? It just seemed that with a little bit of work on the overall aesthetics, some uniformity, better lighting and a coat of paint, this place would feel more rustic and classy. During the day, be prepared for lots of families with kids and seniors. It seemed about 7 or 8 they started leaving and a young adult crowd began to show up. All in all, for the price, we felt good about our trip.

Thank you, Chris, for your review. To answer just a few of your thoughts - the resort is 118 years old - and the pool is one of the main attractions. We sometimes wonder, too, why the big rectangles - it was originally one large oval but changed to the rectangles in what seems like the 1920's. The whole pool was also entirely closed in by a building, until the roof fell in in 1957!

It would be very very difficult to close the pool down for the months it would take to rework the esthetics of the pools themselves, and that work can only be done seasonally. While we do have plans to refinish the interior (coating) of the pool, we currently do not have plans to change the shape/layout of the pools themselves.

We're working on new decking, and the paint may look a bit "iffy"as it is being scraped by our night maintenance crew to be repainted. We are currently working on some beautification / added value projects for the pool area. The area is a constant work in progress! When the Art family purchased Chico in the 1970's, there was green indoor/outdoor carpeting surrounding the pool, and they let a guy paint the back wall which housed the dressing rooms in those days - it was a crazy mural which fit perfectly with the 1970's.

Some of the signage is just "vintage" to the pool (like the "OOL" sign), it's been there for years and it's part of the character of the pool area. In fact, when we took the "OOL" sign down to repaint it, we got so many guest comments about it being gone! Some of it is in the process of being replaced to "match" the other signage.....but when it all looks the same, it doesn't really help in it getting read/noticed. Most of it's there for the safety of our guests.

And about those walls, behind all of them is a building - locker/changing/shower rooms, pool maintenance and storage, Poolside Grille, Saloon, and employee housing. Things were just kind of built up around the pool throughout the years. If we were "starting fresh" today, we'd clearly do things much differently, but we're happily working with 118 years of previous owners ideas and dreams! The history is part of the charm!

Our guests are welcome to enter the pools through any of the three locations - the Saloon, Poolside Grille, or Main Lodge - which ever is most convenient to where you are parked!

Thank you for being our guest!

In summary, the cottage we stayed in was a bit dusty and the bed was terrible. Their restaurant was excellent for dinner but the breakfast buffet was poor. They have a huge swimming pool at ~101 degrees that was packed on a Sunday afternoon and there were a lot of children.

We stayed in the Honeymoon cottage, which is located on a dirt road so the place is dusty. The bed was soft, lumpy and saggy I suppose as a result of too much honeymooning. The shower and sink were fine. We left a day early as a result of the bed condition.

We had a really great dinner in their restaurant. It's mostly meat oriented. There were 4 of us and everyone's entry was very good. I had the flank stake with smoked fingerling potatoes - fantastic. The beat salad was excellent as well. They have a great wine list. It was a very fun evening. I'd go back

Breakfast was disappointing. The scrambled eggs was dry and hard. Everything else was mediocre.

The pool is nice and very popular with the locals. The Saloon has real character and a nice staff. Have to say I don't think I'd hurry back. Lots of small kids and families doesn't hold the same appeal as it used to. Probably much better on a cold winter day.

Room Tip: Don't get a place off the dirt road

My boyfriend surprised me with a weekend trip to Chico Hot Springs for my birthday. We were thrilled our dogs were able to come too! Neither of us has ever been and didn’t really know what to expect. We were both very impressed by the amount of amenities and the welcoming staff. We had two breakfasts and a dinner in their restaurant. All 3 were outstanding. Lindsey even went above and beyond when she found out it was my birthday. We were both too full for dessert so she wrapped one up for us and had them hold it at the front desk while we soaked after dinner. It was a great late night treat!

The grounds are beautiful. There are horses, a lovely hike to a trout pond where our dogs swam, a saloon with games and lots of character, and beautiful gardens.

This place has it all!
