If you are visiting Union Station, Crown Center or WW1 museum please take the time to see this little gem. It's not really big but it is really neat! We got to see a lot of money! You get to try to pick up a gold bar that's worth 500k, get to see a wall with 40 million and lots of interactive stuff for kids and adults. You do have to go through security and get your drivers licence scanned, but it wasn't a big deal at all when you see what you're actually getting to tour.
A little tip. Before you leave take the survey on the computer and at the end you get to pick a prize. One is BOGO at the WW1 museum across the street. We had already been that day or that would have been an amazing deal. That museum is also a must see. (I'll do my review on that as well)
You also get to leave with a bag of shredded money. What a fun souvenir!
All for FREE!

The Money Museum is free. It is a self-guided tour for the most part (tours can be arranged) in the lobby of the building. There are many interactive displays for families to participate in. Coin collectors will enjoy the historical display of currency throughout the history of the United States.
The clear windows allow access to the vault and counting room.
Parking is free. Allow for 1 - 1.5 hours for the visit.

Interesting to see how money changed from the beginning of our country. Some activities for kids.. You get to see (through windows) a sorting room for bills and where the vault is and automated money haulers. There was also a gold ingot in a case you could try to pick up. Easy tour no reservation needed.

My husband gave me a strange look when I said we were going to stop here on our family trip. They have an area that gets the kids involved in the visit. One area that they liked was watching the money being counted and bundled. There are glass walls that you can watch the counting and bundling process. There are activities where they can design their own paper money, try to lift a real gold bar, and see coins displayed during each President's term in office. We just happened to be there when they were starting a tour. You do not have to join a tout group, but the tour guide will give you some interesting information. There is a small parking lot beside the building, and we easily found a parking spot. You do need a valid drivers license or passport to enter (adults). You will also go through a metal detector and security. There is no fee to explore the museum. My son thought the best part was the bag of shredded money that you get to take home at the end of the tour.
