If you are into art then the Nelson-Atkins is the place to visit. So many world class paintings along with wonderful exhibits. Hard to believe that a place like this exists in Kansas City, Missouri but it does. Totally worth a visit and best of all.....it's FREE

We've visited the "Nelson" on both of our visits to Kansas City. This art museum has no admission charge for its own exhibits - and their catalog of artwork is incredible. In October, we saw old Masters and Impressionist works as well as beautiful sculpture. Just last month, there was a visiting Picasso exhibit, Through the Eyes of Picasso (fee) which included paintings, sculpture and drawings. We were also able to view the Dreams of the Kings, Treasures from the Han Dynasty exhibit. We were able to view the art at close range and marveled at the detail we could see. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Kansas City and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art!

It was an opportunity to see some of Picasso’s best work. We enjoyed the visit, the kids were less enthusiastic.

We took the opportunity to see another exhibition were some jade art was on display. Quite impressive.

I could return and spend more time, and the five year olds I was with enjoyed it for a while and liked the scavenger hunt books. Outdoors was a good place to be loud and burn off some energy. HOWEVER, I’m writing this review because my nephew now has a huge knot on his head from hitting the wall in the glass maze/labyrinth. A few minutes later, my dad (who is very careful) ran into one of the walls and got a bruise/blood blister on his hand. And then another kid smacked into a wall, started crying, and almost hit a second one as we were leaving. Maybe the lighting was just right, but we were like the birds in glass cleaning commercials. There are small signs warning kids to be with parents and people to go slow, but my dad had read the sign. That maze was a repeated recommendation for kids, and while interesting and memorable, our experience was bad.

This museum is wonderful! Do not let the price(free) make you think differently! Apparently they used to charge but got a large endowment that made it free for all to enjoy! We saw the Picasso exhibit and that was great too! It's leaving soon I think! Parking is only $10.00 which is great too.
