We were a group of five couples celebrating some birthdays. We were able to have the annex to ourselves which was fabulous for a group. It was a charming property which has a fire pit area and a great cellar bar. The rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable. They could use some new carpet but other than that it was great! The price was affordable and the location, perfect. We would definitely stay there again!

So excellent to hear about your stay. Yes, guests really enjoy our firepit, the live music on weekends, and the Hermann 1837 Cellar Bar. ...All in a Victorian Era hotel...Come back again!

We spent one night here in the Vineyard Suite. This place oozes history and nostalgia of an earlier era. Brick walls and antiques were a special treat. The ownership/management and staff are very accommodating and friendly. There is a Ratskeller type bar with a beer garden. They serve a nice hot breakfast with homemade rolls. It is easy walking to many spots but they also have a shuttle available. We look forward to returning.

We stayed here while biking the Katy Trail. Hermann is easy to get into from the trail and this hotel is just across the bridge. Check in and out was super easy and they allowed us to store our bikes indoors. Cool bar downstairs. Super clean. Good, filling breakfast to get you started the next day.

This is a great location, and with some promised improvements I would consider staying again.

First the positives and they are many- the onsite bar in the basement has a ton of character and serves good bar food. The German tacos were unique and delicious. The pretzel was very hot but cooled quickly and became tough- classic sign this was microwaved and not baked. Boo. We received two free drink tickets upon check in and used them on local wine selections-yay!

The breakfast here has everything you could want with hot food starting around 8 but other items available all day. The free shuttle service to local wineries is excellent (tip your driver!). The location of the main hotel where we stayed is right in the heart of everything.

The history tour, offered for 10 dollars, is just getting started so the guide used notes as we rode around town. It was interesting and lasted over an hour.

Areas for improvement-I understand this property changed owners in the recent past and many upgrades have been made and more are planned. So, with time I hope these improvements are made. Our suite was the World Fair suite and it was very roomy, more like an apartment than a hotel suite. The living room sofa becomes a bed suitable for children. We noticed the coffee carafe right away because it wasn't cleaned and had cold coffee in it. No big deal, we cleaned it. We forget at home sometimes. Perhaps the staff should have a cleaning checklist to help prevent this.

That being said, the carpet is far gone and desperately needs replacement. It's well worn and discolored, with no padding left, making for a hard floor.

The king bed mattress is also ready for replacement, I ended up sleeping with my pillows at the foot of the bed so my feet were lower than my head.

We were sitting in the kitchen chairs when one of the chairs collapsed under my wife. Luckily no one was hurt and upon inspection several screws were missing from under the chair! So I turned my chair over and sure enough some screws were missing which is why it was creaky.

The staff immediately brought us another chair and took the broken one. I showed them under the other chair, that it might need some screws also. But for now it's still there.

Lastly, we should have known when we saw a set of earplugs that we were in for some noise. Turns out the bedroom gets all the road noise. And there's a stop sign right outside so all night, trucks and motorcycles stop, then go, revving the engine and keeping you awake!

The earplugs helped, but honestly if we'd known how noisy this room was going to be we would have asked for a different room. They know it's loud, because we had complimentary earplugs sitting in the bedroom. But it doesn't say anything about expecting road noise in the room description! I wish it did! The Missouri River Suite was next to us so I assume that's loud too.

While reviewing the website I pointed out to the management that the website promised free laundry on every floor (not true) and sodas in each room (nope). Neither was a big deal, probably inaccuracies from previous owners. Hopefully the new owners will update the website for greater accuracy, and include a description of which rooms have earplugs!

My advice is definitely stay at this hotel-but if you are sensitive to road noise at night specifically ask for a suite that does not face the main road!! And with some additional decor updates this property will continue to shine.

Thanks for your stay. We appreciated having you two at the hotel. Yes, we have made an absolute ton of upgrades at the hotel. Striking how far new ownership has come. You mentioned the lower level Hermann1837 Cellar Bar. This really is a one of a kind bar set in an old German or European Victorian theme. We hope you enjoyed the fire pit and live music as well. We are sorry that you experienced the noise from the road though and had concerns in your room. We provide earplugs just in case and room air purifiers in all rooms that provide white noise to those that are extra sensitive. The carpets are set for replacement in 2018. Unbelievably, all the floors are concrete throughout the building to help eliminate noise. Take care and thanks again.
