The Royal Oak was one of a number of local pubs serving food which were listed by our B&B, and we enjoyed our visit. We chose vegetarian lasagne and - from the specials for that evening - the chef's secret recipe curry. Both went down well and portion-wise were near enough spot on: we certainly couldn't manage a dessert! They also keep a nice pint of Timothy Taylor's among their beer selection, and their Stella was perfectly ice cold on a scorching hot day. I might have hoped for a home-made naan with the curry, rather than the Wetherspoons-type catering pre-formed version which came with the very tasty aromatic chicken korma-like secret dish, but that is probably a bit picky on a busy evening. Try this place - you should like it!

Thank you for your kind review and positive comments. Pleased you enjoyed both your food and drinks. The team works hard- and it’s great to receive positive feedback. The chefs make the curry to a tikka heat- them we can easily add more or even take away some of the heat. We do our best to make most of the menu fresh to order- at the moment fresh bread is an little way off. I have passed on your positive feedback to the whole team. Hope you will pop in again if you are in the area

Wow! Visited today for lunch with friends after hearing such positive things about The Oak and my were we pleased that we did. The Royal Oak holds the tripadvisor 'Certificate of Excellence' an accolade in itself which is only awarded for consecutive years of consistent quality.
Credit due to the whole team, front of house to the kitchen, the whole of the staff were welcoming and attentive. Happy to be serving their public and clearly passionate about what they do.
The pub itself a freehouse is everything that you would like a village pub to be, quaint, charming and unspoilt, with outdoor seating to the front and a large lawned beer garden to the rear.
There is nothing that we can add about the food that hasn't been said already.
The choice is extensive, and the quality outstanding, and with all of that with comes really well kept ales. We can highly recommend.

Visited due to reviews on Tripadvisor, not at all disappointed!! Good hot, tasty food.....sticky toffee pudding was amazing! So good we are returning tonight for another meal. Would have given 5 stars, but found the pineapple and ice cream disappointing and not good value for money

The atmosphere is friendly, plenty of gluten free choices and reasonably quick service. Portions are massive. You won't need a starter or dessert! Meat pies recommended.

Thank you for your kind review- really pleased you enjoyed your meals and were well looked after. Next time please leave space for one of the gluten free puddings- the chocolate brownie is delicious and the lemon drizzle is made with mash potato! Hope to see you back at the Oak in the near future
