The temple of Hera /Akraia is a must visit if you are visiting the Corinthian province!
A breathtaking scenic drive amongst the green through Gerania mountain, bypassing the Blue or Heraion lake and straight to the lighthouse of Malevi and temple.
Discover the cistern or sacred pool, the ancient restaurant area,St.Johns tiny church, the sacrificial alter, the west court and of course Hera's temple (or whats left of it)!
Now for the magic.....Swimming swimming swimming!Dive in or jump from the cliffs into crystal clear waters....Unbelievable!
Don't forget to bring a snack for you and plenty of water as there is no place to purchase anything except at the Blue lake a couple of km away!

What would make a swimming session memorable? Clean water? Check! A picturesque gulf protected by the winds? Check! With ancient ruins a small church and a light house just above it? Check, check, check! Heraion is a wonderful location to enjoy a swim, but it comes with some caveats. It's only accessible by car, you have to walk downhill and then uphill a lot and the beach is not accessible really for people with disabilities. Plus, the beach is quite small and can get relatively crowded during summer. That shouldn't put you off from visiting it at least once though!

Quite big and reasonably well explained area with Heraion, cysterns in use until Roman times. Small beach (snorkling around the rocks - there's actually fish there), lighthouse, and sheltered view up on the cape.
Good place to let kids explore.

We drove to Heraion, known also as “Melangavi”, after our short stop to the Lagoon of Vouliagmeni.

The lighthouse on sight is one of the oldest stone-built lighthouses that still operates and is located above the ruins of the ancient settlement of the famous Sanctuary of Hera.

We did not walk all the way down to the ruins as it was extremely hot, but the sight from above is just as beautiful.

Highly recommended for a visit.

If you travel all around the world as I do for business and leisure, this place can remind Tulum in Mexico: an archeological sacred place close to the sea. This sanctuary of the goddess Hera is situated in a small cove of the Corinthian gulf and it is a lovely escape if you are bathing in Loutraki or you not far from the location (just the drive from Loutraki or Corinth is nothing the visit, especially on a sunny day).
With Corinth not so far away, this place is somehow underrated but I strongly recommend a visit if you are in the area: you will not be disappointed !
PS Have a walk also to the close lighthouse where you can have a fantastic view, especially at the sunset.
