“Lovely break”
Reviewed 27 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We went mid to end September and had some good but very changeable weather. Lot of rain for a few days and the house felt a bit dark etc on those days/evenings inside. We should've taken some DVD's as well as lots of books, as the choice of DVD left in house was very limited indeed, obviously French tv, (we must expand our French!), but we thought weather would be good and we would be outdoors evening time.

The pool was great especially when weather was warm/hot. Tracy the house caretaker was great too.

Kitchen great for cooking and we shopped at local market, butchers, boulangerie etc. V friendly. Jarnac is lovely and the river etc.

Day trips to cognac tasting , local small one Inc antique shops and villages and Cognac itself and Angouleme lovely.

Main bedroom comfortable bed and good linen.

Both showers a little bit run down tiling wise to be honest and bit basic.

All in all though a very relaxing break.

“Fantastic house, great location.”
Reviewed 15 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The townhouse was lovely, it was comfortable and very close to all of the restaurants and shops in Jarnac. The house was well equipped with everything you could need to enjoy a comfortable stay. We had a lovely time exploring the area and the pool was well utilised by our children. There were some great restaurants that we visited in Jarnac. We really enjoyed La Chaumiere and Le Coin both within walking distance of the property.
We enjoyed the house and town so much we are hoping to book again for next summer.

“Well equipped and comfortable house and we loved Jarnac”
Reviewed 13 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We very much enjoyed staying at Dix-Neuf. It is well equipped and comfortable. It has a lovely atmosphere and we certainly felt very relaxed

Tracy was most helpful and made sure everything was OK for us – the box of welcome goodies was also appreciated.

We loved Jarnac and the area. Cognac Town, Bordeaux, Angoulême and Île de Rée were also visited and much enjoyed. The countryside in the Grande Champagne was beautiful but the villages/towns in the area had pretty much gone to sleep for the season. Shopping for food in Jarnac was good and your guide notes very helpful. The best restaurant was the Le Coin Charentais near the bridge – very friendly and good food. The Café du Théâtre was also a friendly stopping point.

With thanks again for making your Jarnac home available – we will have some happy memories

“EXCELLENT”

Maison Dix-Neuf lies in the heart of the small town of Jarnac which is situated on the right north bank of the Charente.

This stunning villa is directly opposite the birth home of one of France's former presidents; Francois Mitterrand and is well-located for visits to the Cognac region and surrounding towns and villages.

Courvoisier is actually in the town centre - a short stroll along the rue. However, instead we opted for visits to the local sellers. The passion for brandy was tipping off their Gallic tongues and was a delight to behold and experience.

It was May. The weather was changeable. Beaches were about an hour‘s drive. However we liked the villa so much, with swimming pool, a tad cold I thought, and its lovely kitchen, that we pretty much were embedded for the whole week.

The kitchen was a delight and the cuisine dished up was light years ahead of the competition.

Jarnac’s gastronomy may be found in its high-quality brandy, but its restaurants sadly left us saying a big - Non. Surprisingly for France, those we tried were a bit of a 'tranchee gastronomique'. (Perhaps in high season the real chef’s clock on.)

In short… Dix and Neuf add up to ‘excellent’, and with new owners Phil and Susanna dishing out the welcome packs there is little doubt in my mind that Maison Dix-Neuf will book up fast in future.

Travel

We drove from London to Folkestone (1hr15mns) then Euro tunnel (35mns). The journey down to Jarnac took 8 1/2 hours - due to getting lost mostly, and we did take a short break. (Normally 7hrs non-stop.) My advice would be to do a stopover which we did on the return. We stayed one night at Chartres, which was a beautiful cosmopolitan delight. The food here was excellent.
