Mark has it going on! Veey informative and catered to our likes. Comfortable , clean, and everything was perfect! Will be back next time!
We reserve the half A-day Got up early got ready drove all the way over there and 5 minutes before we arrived at the location we get a call to tell us that the trip rental is canceled due to fog. We were given no other options. Our whole day was planned around this. All around gram island there was little to no fog and I could see at least 500 yd ahead. The fog that they were speaking about quickly burned off by around 10 o'clock. I called the other pontoon rental, Seeberg said they we're going out. The staff and owner here are rude and not very customer oriented I would choose some place else to solicit.
We called and reserved a full day rental just a few days out which I do not recommend since it was their last available boat and the other company was booked. We picked up our boat and rode it over to the Tourist Park to pick up the 4 others in our group. We rode it out along the rocks to Chapel Beach where we had lunch and continued on to 12 Mile Beach. Upon the return, we hit the east side of Grand Island including Trout and Murray Bay's. After a quick stop at the campground, we went up the west side of Grand Island, which is full of unique rock formations and different colors. While Pictured Rocks are spectacular, the west and north sides of GI should not be missed. There were very few other boats, no kayakers, and worth the time.
$200 half day 9 - 1, which would be rushed, glad we went all day for $375. Cost another $90 in gas upon dropping the boat off, which surprised the staff but we were motoring most of the day. There is plenty of fuel for an all-day adventure. We went over the boat and notes were made on any damage and condition of the prop. Boat was in very nice condition. No issues on the return. Would highly recommend and glad we had 3 couples to split the cost. Top speed loaded was 14 mph and Chapel Beach is roughly 14 miles from the dock and 12-mile beach nearly 18 miles. Add in some time to admire the sites and 4 hours can be over in a hurry.
Seaberg rentals were 9 - 2 and I believe $225 for half day plus fuel.
We had great weather and glad we went with this option over the crowded tour boat.
Recently rented 1/2 day trip on July 3, 2018 to get some family members out exploring on the big lake. Had excellent customer service booking the trip ahead of time. We arrived a little past our start time, but the staff accommodated us with getting us set to go in no time. A bit of a rush on the instructions, but with a simple clarification of the important controls again, we had no problems on the water. The boat was clean and properly equipped - my only negative (if that at all) would be that the throttle was a bit sensitive, and you had some abrupt stops when trying to ease down slowly to look at a point of interest. Overall though, they did recommend us taking a picture of the prop (which we did) and made sure to listen closely to "water cooled" engine comments concerning the motor when lifting the motor up for landing. Had a memorable trip and would recommend this company for families wishing to get out and see the beauty of Lake Superior in a safe boat atmosphere with Superior Pontoon Rentals! Good Job staff - we appreciated you attention to our details in making a memorable trip during the 4th of July week!
Rented a pontoon for 1/2 day on August 16th. Had the boat scheduled for 1:30 - 5:30. The boat itself was a disappointment. The throttle control was horrible. Trying to slow down from full speed was nearly impossible. It was either full throttle, or stopped. Needless to say, overtime I needed to slow down or stop everyone had to brace themselves because there was no gradual slow down. If people weren't ready, they went flying forward. Same thing on take off. It was either stopped or full throttle ahead. The boats are also extremely under-powered. I get that it's a pontoon boat and not a speedboat, but ours was so slow (or running so poorly) that we couldn't even make it to spray falls (and the water was pretty calm). They said it was about 1.5 hours to spray falls. We drove for over 2 hours and never came close, we had to turn around to make sure we got back in time. Upon returning, I mentioned to the dock hand about the throttle and was told "strange, that's the second one today". After that, the guy tried accusing me of damaging the prop! He said, "Looks like you hit something with the prop". Luckily I had taken photos of the prop before I left and showed them to him. He dismissed his claim so quickly (barely looking at the photo) that I honestly believe he knew I didn't do it and was just trying to see if he could pull one over on me. Then when we went to pay, I asked to split the bill in half as I was sharing the cost with a family member. They refused to do it! The office girl just said "I was told not to do it". Will never rent from this place again. They took what should have been an awesome experience and ruined it. I'd give less than 1 star if it let me. Waste of $234
We rented August 24, 2017. I have read the negative reviews and the people that write these reviews must not be boaters. ALL of the rental companies were closed the during the past couple of days due to rough waters. I called and verified when trying to book. Unfortunately, the weather here in Michigan is unpredictable. The companies canceled to protect their customers. I cannot say enough good things about this company! They were kind polite and very helpful during the whole process. My only regret is that we only did the half day trip vs the full day. The boats were clean and ran well. This is the best way to get in close enough and beach for a picnic at miners beach. We will be back again for a full day excursion!
