National History and Ethnology Museum
Ranked #2 of 6 things to do in Mary

You need about an hour to visit the museum.
The ethnic display is really great, including a small yurt and numerous pieces of the ethnic jewellery.
The ancient section is also very good, with items from 6 millennium BC.

Nothing spectacular but surely worth a quick visit to see lots of different local stuff concentrated in one place: from animals, to paintings, to maps, and even a nice yurt reconstruction.

Stopped in at the National History and Ethnology Museum in Mary while in the ancient oasis city. It is in a newer over-the-top looking building but is a very well set up museum with lots of great exhibits and a lovely collection that includes artifacts from some of the local dig sites like Gonur Tepe north of Mary. Very pricey entrance fee, I guess they have to pay off their over-the-top building with something but a nice museum overall.

This museum has an amazing collection of artefacts from the nearby major archaeological site of Gonur Depe; don't miss it! The building is new, and the exhibits are very well arranged.

This museum features a large display about the current president of Turkmenistan and has a lot of historical material as well. This is usually one of the tourist stops on the way to Merv.
