This museum has an amazing collection of artefacts from the nearby major archaeological site of Gonur Depe; don't miss it! The building is new, and the exhibits are very well arranged.

This museum features a large display about the current president of Turkmenistan and has a lot of historical material as well. This is usually one of the tourist stops on the way to Merv.

Interesting but no exceptional museum if in Mary. Seen that foreigners are massively charged you may prefer to keep the entrance fee for the (very expensive) National Museum in Ashgabat...

We found this museum to be lacking of anything interesting regarding the Turkmenistan culture. If you want to "kill" and hour looking at exhibits that do not enlighten you and just rehash what you have seen in other museums around the world, then visit this.

Lovely museum, more on an average side if you don't take the shiny new building into consideration. The entrance fee is quite steep here as well, but if I remember correctly, it was possible to pay it in the local currency here. I liked the etnographic part, that was interesting with some nice displays. Also be prepared to be almost the only tourist inside.
