“Bit of a letdown”
Review of Fort Frederick

Fort Frederick
Reviewed 4 June 2018

Nothing really to see, just some old fortifications that would have been impressive in their day. No history signs or panels to read just a base camp for the new army of SL.

Visit is worth the time, especially given the fact that one can combine with the temple visit. Large trees providing ample shade

The old Dutch fort and town are a must visit. Set on a raised headland with magnificent views this old fortified town like Fort Galle are a must visit. Also worth visiting here are the highly colourful Hindu temple of Sri Pathrakaalhi and the stunning end cliffs called "Lovers Leap", sights to remain in your memory for ever.

The fort covers a large area on the peninsula. It covers the ownership of Portuguese, Dutch, British and Sri Lankan. Interesting to view and you walk in without tickets even though it is still an active base for the Sri Lankan’s. Once in it leads to a number of temples.

It occurred to me whilst here how often this happens around the world.  This was our first time visiting a Hindu Temple and found the ornateness and colors, the smells, the music, the behaviour of the Hindu people intriguing.  It was a lovely drive into and walk up to, along with exploring in and around the temple.
