Tipasa Archaeological Park

Wonderful archaeological site about an hour’s drive from Algiers. Beautiful site often mentioned in the works of the first Algerian Nobel Laureate, Albert Camus. It is by the sea side and has lovely views. It is easy to spend an hour or two clambering around the site.
There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby for trinket shopping and to enjoy the fruits of the sea. Plus there is a small museum.
It is very popular with local visitors on weekends so visiting during the week is probably preferable.
I went with Fancy Algeria, a travel company owned by the very friendly and approachable Omar. He encorporated visits to Cherchell and The Royal Mauretanian Mausoleum too. Well worth it.
Djemila and Timgad are two of the other famous Roman sites in Algeria. I arranged those with Omar to. Have to say I liked Djemila the best!

If you are interested in Roman Ruins don't miss this place, it's well maintained, full of history and the place speaks for its self. Amazing view of the Mediterranean sea and mountains. Some areas of the park are situated on hills and therefore be difficult for those with limited mobility and pushchair, however there is plenty of areas that are accessible.

Very extensive ancient Roman community. It truly captures the flavor of Roman life around the time of birth of Christ. Highly encourage a person to hire a guide as he can really bring life the ruins. Well worth the time and has beautiful views.

The ruins are not protected, so everyone can climb on them, take a piece and bring home. It is sad that UNESCO heritage is not responsible for all historical sites. Our history wont be tracked back at some point...
