Wonderful archaeological site about an hour’s drive from Algiers. Beautiful site often mentioned in the works of the first Algerian Nobel Laureate, Albert Camus. It is by the sea side and has lovely views. It is easy to spend an hour or two clambering around the site.
There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby for trinket shopping and to enjoy the fruits of the sea. Plus there is a small museum.
It is very popular with local visitors on weekends so visiting during the week is probably preferable.
I went with Fancy Algeria, a travel company owned by the very friendly and approachable Omar. He encorporated visits to Cherchell and The Royal Mauretanian Mausoleum too. Well worth it.
Djemila and Timgad are two of the other famous Roman sites in Algeria. I arranged those with Omar to. Have to say I liked Djemila the best!
