Outside the State Capital facing Michigan Avenue is a state historial marker giving a great short history of the building (see pictures). Note it is different on each side, so read both.

Not the most beautiful state capitol, but replete with odds and ends of history plus being the seat of a state once considered wilderness, this building bespeaks the spirit of pioneering brought into the 21st century.
A trip to the Capitol has many things to offer. Walk thru history is hung on the walls. The architecture and design is a treat to the eye. Then the operation of government has a viewing balcony. Great for age 5 & up.
I enjoyed photographing the interior of this historic building. Having visited several Capitol buildings over the past year, I would rate this one near the top. The interior rotunda and dome are stunning. The House of Representatives and the Senate chambers are beautiful as well. I had no issues with using my tripod for all the pictures. For parking, I wish that I had brought change as there were several open meter spots on the street right next to the Capitol. Instead, I ended up parking across the street in a garage for a reasonable fee. Highly recommended!
The State Capital has recently undergone major restoration and cleaning which has really brought out its beauty. I love the history and the architecture.
interesting and ornate, the Capitol never disappoints. so much history and detail. parking sitch kinda blows.
