If you get a chance get up early and hike through the park in the morning. I was meeting my sons class for a field trip and decided to go early as the sun was coming up no others except a couple when I got to the museum but saw a couple of deer and a lot of birds and squirrel really enjoyed it.

Stopped in for a short trip with the kids. The interpretive center at the Old Growth Trail is par excellence! I was blown away this was a State Park Center?!? It was better than you’ll find at most children’s museums. On to of it we got to see a squirrel feeding literally on the observation window, and a baby fawn just off the entrance ramp, a doe must have tucked it in to the thicket knowing the rangers would keep an eye on it!

The logging museum was super cool, wished my kids would’ve wanted to spend more time there! The chapel is beautiful as well. Definitely worth a trip if you’ve got kids into nature!

This is a nice park to visit. It is great for cyclists. I took several rides around the park and had an awesome post-ride swim in one of the two lakes. The water is deep, cool, and clean.

We’ve heard about the park and have passed it many times in our travels. We finally made a date to visit and enjoy a glimpse of nature and Michigan’s past. We did not camp, we only visited the nature center and then walked the old growth pines. Incredible..! It’s well worth the visit.

The park is easily accessible from the interstate, and offers plenty of parking. The visitor's center is nice, with exhibits and clean restrooms. There is also a gift shop for souvenirs. The window feeders were nice, and attracted evening grosbeaks.
