The site is being renovated, so not only is there no access to the station, but there is a horrid wire fence all the way round with heavy machinery in the way of getting a good photo. I was immensely disappointed on the one hand, but thrilled on the other hand that renovations are taking place. That is good for the city.

We were lucky enough to tour this once grand structure, this past weekend. I have long hoped someone would buy this building and restore it to it's former glory. Thankfully, Ford Motor Co. is going to do just that. While, it is now in a sorry state, because of 30 years of vandalism, you can get a sense of how grand it used to be and will be once again. Can't wait to see it after the renovation.

Nice idea from Ford to open central station before renovation. Interesting and impressive architecture.

So excited to have been able to tour this place! It's such an important piece of Detroit's history. The outside is so beautiful, however the inside will need tons of work to restore it. So much graffiti (and not the good kind) which is expected for a building neglected for as many years as this was, busted walls and such a strong musty odor from it being exposed, in some parts, to decades of weather. But I can only imagine how stunning it must have been in its heyday. There was a bunch of old ticket booths, an elevator, and the clock is back home too. Lots of photo opportunities, from the art that was hung on display for this event to the decaying walls and ceilings. Very large building, so we could only tour the main floor. Can't wait to see it once it's finished. Parking was free today along the streets. I really hope they open a gift shop inside somewhere, with Depot-themed souvenirs.

I went last week to the Michigan Central Station to see it before it is closed for renovation. We waited in line for 3 hours. (They really could have let more people in at a time.) The station had some get technology that allowed people to write messages that showed on the ceiling. The building is a wreck. I am so happy that Ford is taking over to bring it back. My mom used to talk about how wonderful it was. It will be closed soon. I am happy I had the chance to see the before.
