The Edward Gorey House is a gem of a museum and the exhibit is extremely well and professionally presented. This year the theme of the presentation is the glass cases is the "Murder Mystery Story" and the elements of the murder mystery: the murder, the victim, the suspects, the detective, the clues and the resolution. The curators have collected samples of Gorey's drawings and stories for each of these headings. Very well done. In addition the museum has a scavenger hunt which goes from A to Z which each letter having a Gorey drawing. The participants must find the drawings in each of the rooms. Both adults and children can participate. The docent is extremely well informed about the life and works of Gorey. Don't miss the guided tour. the shop has a nice collection of Gorey items. I bought a nice book of postcards. Children ten and older would really like the scavenger hunt. A great rainy day activity.

We had no idea that the place was so adorable. Cute illustrations all around and a wonderful sense of Gorey and his personality.

We picked a rainy day to visit and, while it was a great indoor activity, everyone else had the same idea and it was pretty crowded. Because this is an actual house, the rooms are fairly small and it doesn't take much to feel as though you're shuffling along with the masses.

That being said, though, it's a hoot for anyone who knows and/or appreciates Gorey. It is not something that I would recommend for children as I thing they would be quickly bored.

On the other hand, for adults it's quirky good fun. I recommend grabbing a 'scavenger hunt' work sheet when you first enter the place. It's filled with weird references and items to notice as you go thru the rooms. Some are really challenging (and I never did figure out) and others are just creepy and fun. You'll see things you wouldn't have noticed otherwise!

I had never known that this house existed on the Cape until this year and was so glad to have found it. The tour of the house was fascinating. I learned so much about Edward Gorey. I will read more and do more research to discover even more . The house is full of artifacts from his life and all the many things he collected. The rooms are jam-packed with memorabilia. The have a scavenger hunt you can do as you go through the house as well as a guided tour and an expert who explains each of the rooms and gives you an excellent overview of the man himself. He was a real character and so talented. His drawings were part of many books and featured on Mastepiece Theater. He won a Tony for his work on the pictures and set for Dracula. What a great sense of humor he had as reflected through his home and his life. Each room has a story to tell and you really have to look hard to find each item that he has in his treasure trove of collectibles. It's really a fun way to spend an hour or so and you will keep thinking about his life long after the tour is finished. Don't Miss this!

It doesn't matter if you know who Edward Gorey is or not, you will have a very entertaining and enjoyable experience with a tour of the Edward Gorey home. It all started as we were warmly greeted at the front door and given the opportunity to look around before the tour began. It was so interesting, we ended up staying after the tour to look over more objects in the home. Great for those with a quirky sense of humor! Tour is on the first floor, so there aren't any steps to walk inside the house. Each year the exhibit changes, so we will be back in 2018!
