We hadn’t meet the previous manager, Vickie, but read a lot of the bad reviews about her! We didn’t know she was gone until we arrived. I got a call from the new manager, Sandra, the day before we were to arrive. She was checking with us to make sure we had reservations for the ferry booked, especially since we were bringing our vehicle onto the island (very nice unexpected touch!). When we arrived to check in, Sandra was awesome! She told us a bit about our room and the hotel) somehow we got lucky and managed to book the biggest room ). She showed us the outdoor grilling area, where we could keep our bikes, and the community kitchen area.
I thought our room was a decent size, I was actually expecting smaller with some of the reviews I had read! I also had to keep in mind that 1) it was an older building and 2) its a room on an island (most rooms on islands are smaller because there is limited room to begin with!). Our room was very clean, with a housekeeper to come in daily with fresh towels, changing the trash and making the bed. We told her about every other day that we didn’t really need housekeeping, since we didn’t generate a lot of trash and didn’t need new towels everyday (she still came to our room everyday to be sure and she was super friendly, too).
The back hallway to our room was narrow, but there is the main hallway from the front desk that is wider. The hallways were well lit, and stayed lit all night.
Sandra also gave us some foodie tips on great places to eat and sights to see around the island. As well as a few spots where we could put our kayaks in and paddle around. She was super sweet and very accommodating. The hotel is within walking distance to the ferry, grocery store, many many places to eat, and little shops.
This was our trip to the vineyard, but won’t be our last!
For those who complained about the size of the rooms, I do have to say I did peek in a few that we went by while housekeeping was in there, and saw a few that were fairly small, but I would like to remind other readers that you get what you pay for. If you want cheaper, you aren’t going to get the best room in the house. So pay attention to what the accommodations of each room are when you book your trip. And also keep in mind that everything on the island is going to cost more than what your used to paying.
We really enjoyed our trip, and were very happy to see the wicked witch we read about was gone! The good witch that took her place made our trip that much better. Thank you, Sandra & Company!!
