The tour guide Erin was wonderful; lots of history of how the Berkshire Historical Society acquired some pieces and much information on Herman Melville and his life and writing. A 1 mile walk outside that would be lovely summer or fall and picnic tables under the large trees he planted for lunch which we took advantage of.

A great surprise.

Visit to this well-maintained and historically accurate residence is well worth a couple hours. Property is very pretty with great views of Mount Greylock. Our docent Bob was well-versed in Melville family history but genealogy portion of tour seemed a little long. Overall a good overview of the life of one of our great American authors

Great place for fleshing our more of Melville’s life and challenges. The docents are really engaged in their subject; especially want to point out “Diane”; I just loved her tact! The gift shop has hard to get works by HM.

As I was here late on a Monday, I was the only one on the guided tour. It was interesting to hear about Melville and his fascinating life. The view of Mt. Greylock from the window by the desk space that Melville wrote at is worth the trip.
