Owner description: Try your luck at catching the brass ring and winning a free ride on the oldest working carousel in the U.S., which has been enchanting children and adults for over a hundred years. The 20 hand-carved horses on this official historic landmark have real horsehair manes and tails.

This was one of my kids' favorite thing to do on the island. I enjoyed watching everyone grab for the rings. There were several people who looked like expert grabbers and were able to catch several each time they went by. I really enjoyed just watching my kids and everyone else. We have ridden on many carousels, old and new, but the ring catching made this one unique to us. Without that it would be just an average carousel to me. It was $3.50 with tax per ride. The brass ring always seem to be the almost last one pulled every time we watched.

Flying Horses Carousel is the oldest operating platform carousel in America, moved to the islands in the 1880s. It is as low tech as you can get and for that reason you should go. The carousel is one of only a handful of carousels that still have brass rings for a rider to attempt to grab as the carousel rotates which adds a bit of competition to the experience. At first you get to practice & then they announce that the brass ring has been added and off you go! If you “grab the brass ring” (yes! that’s where the expression originated) you win a free ride. Take a few moments to enjoy fun from another era, it is a unique experience.

Stopped in really quick to take pics, maybe take a ride next time. All of the riders seemed to enjoy the carousel itself.

Its doesn’t matter how old you’re, you should try it!!!also if you gonna be lucky, you can win the second ride for free(while riding, you can collect some rings, and if you find gold one, you can ride the carousel one more time for free!)

Never have I ever ridden a carousel like this one. Old fashioned charm and the competitive aspect of finding that one brass ring! You just gotta do it.
