The staff at this lovely old inn made all the difference. The service was very good. The rooms were comfortable, the food is good and the bar was very relaxing. This is the most dog friendly inn or hotel we’ve visited. This place is an ideal for a getaway for a few days or a good base from which to explore the local area. We really liked it and will come back.

The girl who took my booking for a table for two, said ‘As it’s your first time here I will put you on the garden window table’. That didn’t happen sadly (it was already occupied) so we were isolated on a table just in front of the bar, with passers-by rubber-necking our food.. Second disappointment was our Sunday lunch. We both chose roast beef with the usual accompaniments. The plate consisted of two huge roast potatoes...enough spuds to give Walkers Crisps a run for their money..two skinny carrots, two broccoli tips and the beef contained 33% gristle. What a let down.
If the purpose of tripadvisor reviews is to encourage bars and restaurants to raise their game, I really hope this eatery takes note. If my wife and I had had a great lunch we would have returned to the Stag and Huntsman time after time, especially as we are new to the area. But instead it’s hello and goodbye !

Good afternoon,

My sincere apologies that you did not enjoy your experience here with us at the Stag. Our team pride themselves on being extremely warm and accommodating and as per our standard level of service, we do all we can to make sure every person here feels relaxed, comfortable and happy. With regards to the food, it is a pity that you felt this way but I can assure you this is not our standard of food and had we known that you had felt this way at the time, we would have been absolutely sure to adjust your plate accordingly. When checking back on your meal which is part of our service and naturally the point where we could have helped or bettered your experience we were not made aware of your dissatisfaction and therefore unable to rectify the situation. Again we strive on high quality service and food and are naturally disappointed that we were unable to provide this for you had we only been given the chance….

Kind regards,

Sarah

After a walk in the beautiful Chilterns our group stoppd here for lunch,. The menu looked good and indeed all enjoyed their food . My fish platter was OK but with omly calamari rings and whitebait it was way over priced . The atmosphere and building were lovely and of course the village setting is amazing. What let the side down was the service , one waitress was helpful and efficient . The other waitress who brought our food and drinks and coffees had an atitude problem which all our group remarked on . She let the Stag and Huntsman down , She did not know which meal was for who , what they were etc etc . Had she been as effective as the other waitress this score would have been a 4or maybe a 5

Set in the pretty hamlet of Hambleden. The most filmed village in UK.
Delicious menu! Light lunches as well as full mains.
Try a pint of Loddon Hoppitt too.
Friendly staff and very good service. Mature, good old fashioned country folk pub.
Quite a few tables were reserved on a Monday so maybe worth a call.

Super friendly staff, very welcoming to dogs, interesting rooms and cosy public areas. The food choice and quality was really good too. Amazing breakfast. There are easy pretty walks from outside the front door. Everything seemed high quality from owners who wanted to impress. MANY THANKS.

Room Tip: Cannons Wood was a lovely room with a spectacular bathroom but they all seemed good.
