This house was better than expected. I traveled with my father, fiance, his friend, and our two-year-old daughter. The view is amazing and the pictures do not do it justice. There was plenty of room for us, as the upstairs loft area is basically it's own apartment with multiple sitting areas, a small kitchen, and bathroom. The house was clean and well stocked with kitchenware. While Bar Harbor is wonderful and draws the tourist, I ended up preferring the stay in South West Harbor, 20 minutes away. It was nice to be able to enjoy the peace away from the crowds when we were done doing the tourist thing. Southwest Harbor also has its own small town with boutiques (more authentic feeling than the cookie cutter gift shops in Bar Harbor, IMHO), galleries, markets and restaurants. There are many nearby trails around the area to hike and explore Acadia National Park. There is also a free shuttle that runs all along Mount Desert Island throughout the day and, as it runs right in front of the house, I imagine one could easily flag it down right there. My father and I also enjoyed running straight from property trough the scenic town in the fresh mountain air. We all hope to return to the Cape Cod House again.
