“Such a very, very, special place!”

From the moment you see this wonderful cabin by the St Croix River, you know you have found something very special, but wait it only gets better! The cabin is new, spotless, and decorated very nicely with all the comforts of home. Bedding and towels are provided as well as a kitchen that has all of your cookware, dishes and even a gas grill outside. A TV is also provided, as well as Wi-Fi. (Almost seem out of place in this setting). Looking out the windows with the river so close it is endlessly entertaining. Early mornings the lobster boats are out pulling their traps, we also watched the loons, ducks, geese, and we even saw a bald eagle. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular looking across the river, as well as the amazing 28 foot rise and fall of the tides every six hours. Captain Lou is a terrific host and honestly made this one of nicest experiences we have had traveling. He asked my husband to go along with him when he went out to pull his lobster traps; it was an experience that made memories for a lifetime, a highlight of the trip. If you have the opportunity to travel to this part of Maine, don’t miss the Captain’s Cabin. We certainly look forward to a return visit!!

We stayed at the cottage for 5 days and really did not want to leave. The views are magnificent and ever changing with the wind and light. - absolutely beautiful! The cottage is adorable, fully supplied, very clean and comfortable! It is a wonderful place to just enjoy the fantastic vista , curl up with a book or take day trips to St Andrew by the Sea or Roosevelt Cottage at Campobello. We definitely will come back to enjoy this delightful place.

“More than expected!”

Our stay at "The Captains Cabin" was more than we had expected. Not only were the accommodations very clean and comfortable, the views of the St. Croix river from inside the cabin were amazing. We awoke to see the river while lying in bed and when the weather was clear, being able to see the sunrise was an added bonus. Having morning coffee or an evening night cap at the dinette table, we were able to watch lobster fishermen pulling and setting their traps every day. We also viewed seals, loons, and a variety of ducks on the river as well as deer through the cabin windows.

Everything one could need was provided, bedding, towels, dish soap, hand soap, dishes, pots and pans, etc...including a gas grill. Nothing was left out.
A television and cable is provided but we never turned it on.

Captain Louis was a great host. He check on us frequently to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we would need. He was very knowledgeable of the area and offered it freely. One evening he had offered us to ride along while he checked his lobster traps and we gladly accepted. He explained some of the history of the St. Croix Island, which you can view from the cabin, while he was checking his traps. This was the highlight of our stay in the Captains Cabin.

The only issue with the cabin is that we live thirteen hours away making it difficult to rent it more often.

Not only would we come back visit Calais Maine again, we would come back to visit a new found friend in Captain Louis Bernardini
