“An idyllic escape in the Italian countryside”
Reviewed 7 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Myself and four friends had the most wonderful holiday in Casa del Mandorlo and are hoping to return for many more. We arrived very late on the Saturday and Carla was there to give us a warm welcome and was nice enough to stock our kitchen with all the essentials to get our holiday off to a great start.
The villa itself is beautiful and it is difficult to put in to words how peaceful it is there. All you can hear is the birds, cicadas and the occasional church bell in the distance. The villa was much bigger than we had expected and very well furnished. Carla has thought of everything that you might need from toaster and kettle to hairdryer and hot water bottle. We were also lucky enough to be there when the cherry tree was bursting with cherries and Carla encouraged us to help ourselves.
We went on a few trips from the villa. It is situated about 1 1/2 hour drive from Rome so we spent a day there taking in some of the famous sites. Rieti is about a half hour drive and a lovely village which we visited a couple of times. There are several local villages that we could have explored much more as well as a stunning lake that we drove around when taking in the area.
I would highly recommend a holiday here and hope to return again in the coming years. Absolutely wonderful.

“Fantastic holiday accommodation at Casa Del Mandorlo”
Reviewed 3 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

The photos on the website don't do this house justice. The place is stunning and set amid the Italian hillside with fabulous views all round. The accommodation is very clean, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. It has all the mod cons you'll need and more.
The surrounding area is green and picturesque. It was quiet and peaceful, the silence only broken by birds or the cicadas. We never tired of the views and there are so many different places you could sit and relax. The porch, the terrace, the secret hideaway with sun loungers, the pool - where ever - you had plenty of space to wander around both inside the house and out.
The host, Carla, met us and was so friendly and kind. She started our holiday off by leaving us fruit, a bottle of wine, bread, coffee and milk - all very welcome.

The nearest village is Rocca Sinibalda, just under 2 miles away - a pretty place that has a general store (they did a lovely panini), butchers and a bar (great views again) - the restaurant was good too, good food and reasonably priced, although beware, it's not open every day.

The nearest larger town with bigger supermarkets and lots of shops is Rieti - worth a visit as it's a lovely place with plenty of places to sit and have a drink and people watch or to shop. it has loads of churches for such a small place too, one of them, St Francis is absolutly fabulous inside. From Rieti, it's possible to get a bus into Rome for approx 4 euros - got to be done!. Also, in the San Rufo piazza, there is a large stone marking the centre of Italy! A clear photo opportunity
If you want to venture further affield, try Villa Adriana near Tivoli to see what Emporer Hadrian helped to build / design. it took us about 2 hours steady drive from Casa Del Mandorlo.Take water and allow at least a couple of hours to see everything. The Tivoli gardens are worth a trip too - ask when near - it's easier. The waterfall at Marmore is quite expensive if you dont take the longer tour - but it's pretty and worth considering, providing you are ok to walk up and down loads of steps, as are the nearby lakes.

You definitely need a car, and a Sat Nav wouldn't go amiss - but the roads are generally ok although the road signs can be confusing.

All in all, the Rieti area is wonderful and so breathtakingly beautiful, just have a drive around. If you want a place off the tourist track - this is it. We'll be back

“Perfect in Every Way”
Reviewed 31 July 2012 for a stay in July 2012

I cannot recommend this house more highly. It is perfect in every way. The owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. We have been here for ten days. We don't want to leave and we plan to book it again next year.

As I write this I am sitting in the dining room, looking out across rolling hills with my toddler fast asleep after a wonderful morning splashing in the pool and my husband satisfied after a day in Rome yesterday.

The house is large, cool despite the heat outside and very comfortable. The surrounds are tranquil and quiet. Your can drive to a small Tabacchi 2 minutes away for coffee and cornetti in the morning of for daily supplies. Or you can drive into Rieti (15-20 mins) for town comforts, restaurants, supermarkets etc.

We have also gone to Rome for the day twice. It takes 1 hour 20 mins to get to the Villa Borghese carpark which is perfectly situated as the starting point for a day of sight-seeing.

Come here if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of life. We have been with extended family members of all ages and we've all loved it.
