You could not want more in a B&B. The quiet location, beautiful fall foliage, and helpful and really nice proprietors Scott and Carol Gould. Oh and did I mention the yummy breakfast served. We had the Fernwood suite on the first floor which was lovely with its outdoor patio and fire pit. Sitting on the large front porch enjoying the glorious fall foliage, sipping a glass of wine was a great way to relax in the afternoon after experiencing the beauty that this area has, such as Grafton Notch or Pinkham Notch. Could not more highly recommend this fantastic B&B.

Scott and Carol Gould’s B&B is an exquisite abode to rest yourself in Bethel — a beautiful town in NW Maine. The rooms are well designed and appointed — spotless, comfortable and roomy. Breakfast is scrumptious. The location is a quiet and beautiful part of the town. Go.

My wife and I stayed one night at the Bethel Hill Bed and Breakfast last Monday. We were traveling through Maine and just needed a nice place to put up our feet and get a decent breakfast before heading out the next morning. We found Bethel Hill B&B to be well-reviewed and decided to give it a shot.

Turns out that was the right choice.

When we arrived, we drove up to a large house with a large, beautiful garden to greet the visitors and a large porch with chairs for many. Upon entering, we were greeted by Scott Gould, the husband half of the couple who keeps the inn. He showed us our room, the Fernwood Suite, and then gave us some dinner suggestions, as we had never been to Bethel and were quite hungry. We went with one of his suggestions and were glad we did.

We returned to a quiet room and a quiet place. The room itself was quite large and beautifully furnished, complete with a beautiful, comfortable couch large enough for three. There was also a Jacuzzi in the bathroom, and a private patio with two chairs and a table out back. There was a TV and a roomy closet, but we did not use either. The bathroom was also quite large and nicely decorated. We really appreciated the furniture in the room, as all of the pieces were vintage or antiques and just beautiful to look at. It did mean being careful to use coasters, but those were provided. The bed was comfortable.

The next morning, we ate breakfast in a beautifully decorated nook in the front of the house right next to windows looking out over a garden full of flowers, a few of which adorned our table in a small vase. Our breakfast came in two courses, the first of which was fresh fruit picked from local gardens, followed by a traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast; Scott cooked the eggs as we preferred. We also had the option of having blueberry pancakes featuring some of those fresh blueberries. We were also offered a selection of juices, and, of course, coffee. Everything was delicious, including the coffee.

We our conversation with Scott as much as our meal (Carol was working elsewhere that morning). We had a nice chat about work and life in western Maine, along with some of the sites nearby that would be worth seeing. Scott even afforded us a map to help us find our way. As we often find to be the case with the best B&Bs, that conversation proved to be one of the best, while unquantifiable, benefits of staying there.

In short, there is nothing wrong with Bethel Hill Bed and Breakfast. It is what a B&B should be.

Room tip: The Fernwood Suite is ideal for couples wanting to rest as well as sleep -- room, the couch, and the patio all provide space to stretch out.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights, very nice accommodations, welcoming host, great breakfasts. Our room was very comfortable.
The B&B is in town, so an easy walk to main street and restaurants. The owner Scott was very knowledgeable about the area, he was able to provide a number of suggestions and share a lot of the history of the area.
