My wife and I lived in Shreveport and came down here a couple times a year while we lived there for 7 years. We love the Christmas fireworks show every year so we would come down then and we always walked the historic shop street looking in all the shops. As neat as this was, the funny thing is we could never really find anything that floated our boat. Everything just wasn't really for us. i think in the 7 years we came here the only things we ever got was a shirt, hot sauce, a magnet, and bath bombs for my wife. Which really didn't amount to much however if your within a couple hours of here make sure you come to the Christmas fireworks show at least once you won't regret it.

The main downtown in Natchitoches is Front Street. It is historic and quaint. This is the Home of the movie -- Steel Magnolias! Don't venture here looking for chain restaurants and box store mall shops. Instead find one-of-a kind boutiques, coffee shops, candy emporiums and specialty stores. We struck it rich on a Saturday in May when they converted the street to a pedestrian mall and filled every space with farmer markets items.

We loved strolling down Front Street and stopping to shop here and there. At EVERY store that we went into, we were greeted and made to feel welcome which enhanced our experience. It was also really nice to walk down the river side of Front Street and down to the shore. Just beautiful! Spent some money and had fun!

The shops are located on Front street and a few cross streets (church st and denis st). They are very cute. We saw that there were 33 blocks of shopping so were a little confused with only the small amount of shops. Its riverfront and a very pretty area. The restaurants are great too.

Nice area to walk and walk explore. A lot of shops have gone out and restaurants are going in. Everything pretty much closes up around 5:00 everyday except the eating places.
