A must, if you love natural landscape, hilltop was a private home donated to LSU and created with love and hard work from one man, I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was alive, and we will be forever greatful for his contributions to landscape Architecture

This small property has some nice buildings overlooking a pond that are suitable for small to medium sized meetings and special events. The arboretum aspect is underdeveloped with one short trail that has signs identifying different species of trees.

On a late Sunday evening we decided to take a drive to go shoot some photographs. We looked up some new places to explore and we ended up on Highland and came across the Hilltop Arboretum. We were pleasantly surprised to find out it was still open and it was free. The park is open from dusk to dawn. The park was not that big but it has some nice elements. We were able to get some nice photographs here. They have a lot of different trees and types of flowers. It was interesting to see the varying types of plant life here. I look forward to coming back when it's in full fall foliage season. My favorite flowers were the BeautyBerry and the wild sunflowers. They also have a huge mound that is nice for shooting on and looks like it would be a lot of fun rolling down. I'll be back to see the new flowers and plant life soon.

I had an opportunity to participate in the junior master gardener camp. As an orchid society, we were invited to show and talk about the orchids as epiphytes. Several Master gardener members were spending time with young kids showing them lots of hands on fun things. When I was there, there were showing them how to make jelly. After making them they can eat a sandwich with jelly in it. How much fun is that. The place is clean and very serine for me.

The arboretum isn't large, but it's nice. They have a number of different plant and tree species. A lot of the trees are labeled with markers in the ground, but many more are identified on their brochure. It doesn't take long at all to walk the path, but it's a nice place to sit and read or picnic if you want to take along a snack or some lunch. They also have an annual plant sale in early April and have some great stuff there.
