We love Wilderness safari camps so we’re excited about their latest camp in Rwanda. It did not disappoint
Tents/ camp: beautifully furnished. Modern but not overly so. Tents are spread out for privacy. All overlook the hippo filled lake
Food: excellent food, very yummy. Choice sometimes limited but this is normal
In such a small lodge
Staff: all were wonderful. Very helpful and professional. No effort was too much but at the same time it all feels very relaxed
Game viewing: I was not sure what to expect of Akagera and the level of game viewing. It is a little bit harder to see lots of animals and there isn’t an abundance of massive elephants herds etc but we still had some excellent sightings. Not sure it would be ideal for a first safari but still , park is so stunning. Beautiful views, lakes. I loved it. Lots of birds. Loved the night drives when we saw mongoose, genet and hyenas

This is a great new venture for Wildernesss and a fantastic new camp for Rwanda. I loved it and will hopefully return to Rwanda 1 day

Thank you Chocolate74 for your wonderful review and for sharing this Rwandan journey with us. Akagera National park is a real gem of Africa and we are glad to be able to highlight this less frequented area with all our guests at Magashi. Teeming with plains game, Akagera now also boasts a healthy population of lion, which were reintroduced into the park in 2015 after a 20-year absence, as well as black rhino which were reintroduced in 2017. Magashi – the only exclusive-use area in Akagera – also harbours a good density of leopard.

Thank you again

A luxury safari camp with a personal touch. The facility, food, service and experience deserve five stars. The animals, landscape and guides are everything one would hope for. The staff are warm, thoughtful and professional. I give Magashi my highest recommendation.

When we arrived there were six women from South Africa who were returning by same car to Kigali the happiness and joy they expressed at their experience was infectious. We had the most amazing time. The food, staff, and facility were perfect. It is a private concession and while on it there were no other visitors which added tremendously to the experience also there is a huge private lake from which the wildlife viewing is intimate and serene.
This was my first safari so I had nothing to compare to but I cannot imagine better or more knowledgeable guides than Hein and Jaco.

My wife and I spent 3 days on Safari at Magashi and couldn't have been happier. Its a new lodge and safari area so we weren't sure how much there was to see. However we had a great experience and our guide Hein went out of his way to be sure we saw what we wanted and got the pictures that we were after. It's a beautiful and scenic park, the birdlife was prolific, we were amazed to see Lions digging with all 4's for warthogs! Every detail was attended to, the room and the common areas were beautifully decorated with Rwandan touches. We did land game drives and combination water based boat trips with meeting up with the vehicle, Both were great. For any lodge the staff were great and considering how new the lodge is they were amazing! Anita was great help on our way out helping us with luggage transfer, (we took the helicopter which was scenic and easy)
