Booked this hotel for its outstanding reviews as well as the fact that it had different types of rooms so the hubby and I could have some space from the teens. There is definite charm with the decor and the fireplace and the outdoor fire pit. Also they have 2 room suites that can sleep 6 for $150...pretty good deal. Overall things are clean and front staff is nice. But...i wouldn't give it 5 stars because of the following: water barely got above warm for showers, when other people run their showers a roar is heard in your room and the fitness center had just 2 treadmills and an elliptical.

Hotel is pet friendly and kid friendly. Definitely a family traveling oriented hotel.

We stayed there for 2 nights during the Memorial Day weekend. The hotel is tucked away in the back lot surrounded by other hotels and chain restaurant. It was a quiet location.
Check in was quick and we assigned the room in the top floor as requested. Upon entering the room, it was spacious with typical amenities like refrigerator and coffee maker. The door mirror off the bathroom door was taken off leaving the adhesive stain, which is an eyesore but other than that, it looked like a nice clean room. The fire alarm was making chirping sound and a call to the front desk and maintenance was quickly dispatched to replace the battery but it didn't stop the chirping. Maintenance was called again and he replaced with a new fire alarm.
The free breakfast had the typical food options (pastries, waffles, sausage and egg, etc.) and the scramble egg was cooked fresh. The breakfast area was right at the main lobby so it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded like the other hotel's setting, though the scattering of the food stations mean people always roaming around.
The hotel also has other amenities like board games on the lobby and pool, which we didn't use.
It was a very good stay and value for the money, the only draw back was the slow internet and the door might slam loudly, which is more of a nuisance but it didn't bother us too much.
If we return to Des Moines area, we would definitely consider or return to the Wildwood Lodge.

This hotel was FANTASTIC! From the friendly staff to the great room, we enjoyed it all. And at a great price! There were towel art swans on the jetted tub. The room layout was great. The in room jetted tub was the best we've ever used, and I've gotten them in many hotels, some that I paid a lot more for the room. The breakfast in the morning was great. They were preparing the scrambled eggs right in front of us! There is an outdoor firepit that looked very inviting, we just ran out of time to try it. But that will be on the list for our next visit!

We chose this hotel during our visit due to the poor weather forecast and figuring we were going to just spend the evening in the room watching movies and hanging out. We selected the king fireplace two room suite to give us a lot of room to relax. The room size was great! Two bathrooms, a huge whirlpool tub, small kitchenette, fireplace and a separate bedroom. It was perfect for lounging. However it turned out not to be perfect since our suite was adjacent to another suite with a “shared” door which happened to be occupied with numerous screaming children and parents. It was so loud we could hear every word they said. The only saving grace is they were gone a few hours in the evening and were apparently asleep by 10:30. I did mention something to the front desk, but a manager didn’t contact me directly about the issue. My main concern is making sure others renting this suite know they share a door and that noise could be an issue. The condition of the suite was a bit weathered as well, it is in need of an update. The breakfast spread was great, with a lot of different options, not really organic or super healthy options but still a variety of food. If it had been quiet and the rooms were updated this could definitely be a four star hotel.

I was driving cross country from east to west, was tired and really needed a place to relax and sleep. I found this hotel using a different app because the price through trip adviser was higher.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I found the hotel and the welcoming outdoor gas fireplaces by the main entrance. The lobby has a very woodsy, rustic theme and made me feel very welcome. There was no line to check in and the person at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. I was also very surprised to learn that upon check-in you got a complementary adult beverage that you could enjoy either in their wonderful lobby or in your room.

The room was absolutely outstanding! It was quite large, everything about it was impressively clean, and the bed and pillows were very comfy. The room had a cabin decor including a wall mount of full-size decorated canoe paddles.

The morning breakfast was served hot and fresh and gave you many choices to choose from.

For the quality of their facility, spacious rooms, and the friendly staff, I would’ve expected to pay much more for room. That is why I gave this facility a five star rating and will stay here again.

The only nit that I do have is that I drive an electric vehicle and they did not have any charging facilities in their parking area. Since electric vehicles are becoming more common, I hope to find more hotels with at least one charger (30 - 50A) in their parking lots.
