to make a long story short. BEST vacation ever...I would consider ourselves well-traveled, but this trip was way beyond our ex...
in detail: We booked this riding adventure for 8 days, which is actually quite long for riding only...
not a single moment of boredom or confusion...the wheather (end of may and beginning of june) wasn´t always cooperating...we actually got completely wet to the skin...even with that in mind this day turned out to be very romantic...
Ellen and Louis are both very experienced guides and do consider your riding abilities...
After they know the riders better some trips can get quite daring, but never risky or dangerous.
Since we stayed for over one week we covered a lot of area...hardly ever went on the same path twice...the horses are in good an healthy condition and well groomed.
it is a good idea to stay at least three full riding days...then you have the opportunity to really dive into "ride and wine"...that means: after having been in the saddle for about two hours you take one turn and you see something totally unexpected...I will not reveal alle the secrets at this point, but I can assure: be prepared to expect the unexpected in an very pleasant way...
Louis´timeframe and synchronization by far exceeds any swiss watch...precise, yet not obtrusive...just give him some ideas and some time, and "miracles" will happen...I mention this, because I had many unusual requests (from playing piano to cooking)...it ALL worked to its best...
accomodation: we were at the "angala" and "leeuwenhof"...both different from each other, yet unique...
another special on this trip: Louis (and Ellen) not only care about your riding, but also about your taste buds...that means: after the riding you have enough time to pamper yourself a little and you will get picked later for a very relaxing dinner...different location...cannot say which one was best, because they all were very unique...italian food, just picnic, homemade food, wine tasting...we even had a vacation within our vacation: a one-day trip to the coast...we got new horses for a three hour trip along the sandy beaches...this was just awesome...!
this is definitely a place to go there for a second time...
I would rate the entire trip with 6 out 5 stars...!!!

The best horse riding I've ever done. I chose a 3 hour mountain ride, without the wine although Ellen will take you on a wine tasting on horseback, if you want to. I was given Talahasee to ride - a beautifully tempered white Persian who behaved impeccably.

If you are used to riding in a school, don't give the horse an almighty kick to get him moving, a gentle squeeze and you are off trotting. We wended our way through the vineyards, trotting along and Ellen asks you if you want to canter, or trot, or walk. The horses handle the walk up the mountains very well and at the top are the most amazing views across stellenbosch.

Ellen was a great instructor and a very patient one. She pointed out the birds - Eagles were seen, and the different trees and gave tips to get the most of the riding. Hold your reins loose, keep your feet down, etc. being a novice rider who is used to being in a school, Ellen made the trip for me. She was soothing and comforting when I was being a bit of a big girls blouse at the start, and then let me do my own stuff when I was confident.

The horses are gorgeous, the people very very friendly and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see something a little bit different.
