Owner description: A romantic house and gallery set in beautiful riverside gardens. Ancient trees, bubbling brooks and rolling lawns frame this lovely old house. Crafted from a medieval priory, it is full of surprises, with art that intrigues and delights. Come back throughout the year to see different exhibitions in the gallery. Carpets of spring bulbs, a stunning walled rose garden, rich autumn leaves and a colourful winter garden make Mottisfont a feast for the senses all year round. There's space to run, jump and play, and always something for families to do.

Everything about this visit was wonderful. We went to see the roses and bloom and saw not only roses, but three types of lavender blooming in the garden. There were some novel ideas for ways to work with trellising roses and clematises. I took plenty of pictures. We stayed the entire afternoon and visited the abbey turned residence and now part of the UK National Trust. There were many families with children enjoying the extensive manicured lawns and having picnics. A true treasure for a visit for the family.

The National Trust has done its usual high-quality job on this delightful 'family' home. The stable block has been converted to very good cafeteria: sandwiches are tasty and filled to overflowing and the cakes (we loved the Dorset apple) are very generously portioned.

The extensive rose garden is everything you expect from a traditional English setting: masses of old-fashioned roses which fill the air with their scent.

Do take a stroll along the bank of the Test which has been diverted to run through the grounds.

great visit to the walled graden at mottisfont, although the roses are nearly over. Some were still very fragrant. Toured the house in the heat of the day. Ate picnic in the grounds. Had delicious cornets from Judes ice cream in the stables, next to a fabulous sculpted horse.

We decided to visit here as it combined gardening and history. The walled rose garden was full of garden enthusiasts admiring the old rose collection, the well kept grounds and walk across the meadow and alongside the river test tributary was enjoyable especially if you are a dog owner. The History of the house and it's origins are explained very clearly by the information boards. (This is a National Trust Property)

Beautiful expansive gardens that are immaculate and full of wonderful roses. It was a very sunny day and we didn’t even go into the house as the gardens were enough to satisfy a full afternoon.
