We have just returned from our first holiday to Koh Samui with 3 families (6 x adults plus 1 x 22yr, 2 x 18yrs, 1 x 16yr and 1x 15yr) and absolutely loved our stay at Ban Mekkala Villa. This villa is even more beautiful in real life and even more spacious. There is room for everyone to have there own space and bathrooms in all 6 rooms, including outdoor showers (as well as inside). The pool is incredible and we spent a lot of time in it and the pavilion area. At night we even watched movies on the outdoor screen! We enjoyed using the stand-up boards and kayaks as well as games around the pool. The 5 staff that look after you, led by Fai are exceptional; nothing was ever too much trouble. Fai happily organised half day trips such as local snorkeling, zip-lining in the rainforest, shopping at Chaweng and drivers to take us to Fisherman’s Wharf night markets. We loved the chef who cooked all our meals too - the easiest way to not have to worry about what to eat, where to buy it etc; very reasonably priced too! We also enjoyed walking down to the local beach hut for a cocktail too! It is nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the busier areas of Koh Samui and just go in and visit them as required. We also loved the day spa room where they would come to you to give you a massage! We can not recommend this villa highly enough and cannot wait to go back!
Facilities were excellent and faithful to the description and photos in the listing. All common areas and bedrooms were contemporary, well appointed and pristinely clean. Each bedroom was private and comfortable. The choicest room was the one up front beside the sunken dinning table facing the pool and the beach. The 2 bedrooms in the two story building at the rear had the largest and most luxurious bedrooms and a separate living room and kitchen. Good location for early rising children away from the water and with TV room to distract them while adults got a few extra winks. I was prepared to be somewhat disappointed by the beach which was properly described in the listing as suitable for beach walks and wading but not for swimming. However our group was unanimous that this was a great trade off for the privacy and the magnificent vista and sunrises and sunsets. There were lots of great beaches which we wanted to visit on day trips anyway and it was easy to crash other resorts on those beaches by simply staying for lunch there. The off site Villa managers, Moc and Nim, were on hand to great us, orient us and introduce us to the onsite husband and wife team, Maan and June, who took great care of us and the Villa during our stay. They were always available but were unobtrusive and stayed at their own quarters at the rear of the property. Excellent clean large L shaped pool. Their continental breakfasts, included in the rental, were just great and were supplemented by bacon and eggs on request. We took advantage of the option of having number of dinners and lunches prepared by a chef. These meals were prepared by Maan and June , in some cases with the help of an additional chef brought in for the purpose. We requested traditional Thai cuisine and were delighted with the authentic and delicious meals that were served in the sunken dining table by the pool with the backdrop of the beach, ocean and nearby islands. Do arrange for a vehicle for interesting side trips because along with the treasured privacy comes the need for transportation to the islands sights which are not to be missed. Our group apppreciated the flexibility that could be enjoyed by a combination of one car, one 7 passenger SUV and 2 motor scooters. Hertz served us well but be sure to allow a bit of extra time when returning the vehicle. The scooters were arranged by Maan and were good quality and very inexpensive. Overall a very successful relaxing visit-highly recommended.
