In between Columbia and Millstadt is a local distillery. Stumpy's distills vodka, bourbon and whiskey. The tasting room is comfortable and attractive. Laura handles the duties and makes visitors feel welcome. Adam handles the tour. He is articulate and takes time to answer questions. Visit and learn about this local gem.

Visited with a Groupon.

1. Call ahead and reserve your spot. They can only take a limited number, as this is not a huge place. Don't show up and assume that you can get into a group.
2. Show up 10 minutes early, as they request. Other people are waiting on you, so don't be that person (or couple or group). Also, they have a schedule to keep.

Right now, they don't have a sign--so look for a tan building with a gravel drive and a bunch of cars.

We arrived early, but unfortunately had to wait for the other members of the scheduled time slot to show up--they were late.

The tour actually starts at the bar with the tasting, and then after you are sufficiently plied with samples, you get to go and see the still.

You get to sample six different alcohols that are distilled on site (but we actually got more like 9 samples--but don't tell!).

While tasting, you get a history of the family, how each of different flavors were developed. After samples, you get to choose a cocktail to take on the tour.

The tour is not huge--this is a small startup distillery--so you basically go to the back of the building and get an overview of how to make liquor. It can be very hot in the distillery area, so be forewarned. It is a fun thing to see, and allot nicer than an episode of Moonshiners.

After the tour, go buy something. We brought home three bottles to add to our collection. They offer a discount off a case of 6 (equivalent to about 20%).

This was a good Saturday afternoon event.

This local distillery is off the beaten path but worth the visit. We live in STL but within a quick 30 minute drive, outside Columbia IL is Stumpy's Spirits Distillery. They produce Unbroken Vodka and Old Monroe Bourbon, with a Gin on the way. Also BBQ sauce. The owners (Laura & Adam) are enthusiastic and friendly and do a great job on the tour. You get to try all their products in stock (some flavors are seasonal). They even have flavored spirits such as Green Apple, Pecan Pie and Honey. They also host Sip and Painting parties as well as a Spring Festival. We love to support local businesses and this is one worth supporting!

A local craft distillery using local grains and fruits. Unfortunately, we got there just as a "tour" was beginning. We were told we could taste in about 15 minutes, which grew to much longer than 30 minutes. We looked around (plenty of merchandise with their logo) as long as we could. At that point we purchased a bottle of bourbon and tasted it at home. OK for a craft distilled bourbon. Constructive criticism: if doing a "tour", show the distillery first, THEN let folks belly up to the bar. Overhearing the pitch from the tour leader, she was describing their products and history (OK so far), then providing a lot of tasting. I probably would like it more if I was part of the tour, but a couple folks had too much in our humble opinion. We've toured many distilleries; never tasted before the tour. Like I said, however, their bourbon was pretty good.

Bought a Groupon for this tour and well worth the money. Very small distillery but fun and informative. The owner guy did our tour and it was interesting and fun to hear about plans. His wife was inside and gave us all the samples. Everyone gets a nice souvenir glass as well. It was easy to get to off route 3 and very close to the JB bridge and St. Louis.
