Historic hotel with a perfect location

The Congress is a worn jewel with a location that a comfortable pair of shoes is all you need to have an enjoyable stay. My kids and I parked next door and walked everywhere for two days (museums, Willis Tower and dining). The hotel is old but she still has her charm. Our room was clean, staff was friendly and overall we had a great visit.

My son and I stayed here for 4 nights and although the hotel is quite old, our room was more than adequate with high ceilings, very comfortable beds and an amazing outlook over Grant Park and Lake Michigan. The Congress Plaza is perfectly situated within walking distance of all the major attractions; the Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, Chicago Art Institute and the magnificent mile. It's got style and character if not all the mod cons commonly found in newer hotels. A simple improvement would be china cups with the coffee making facilities and more coffee and creamer provided on a daily basis.

When we booked our stay at the Congress Plaza Hotel we chose it for it's convenience and reasonable price. After the fact we had found out it had a reputation for being one of the most haunted hotels in Chicago. It did not deter us at all. Not believing in ghosts we figured we'd take our chances but wanted to know more about it's history. It's a great old hotel with lots of character and a colorful past. We wanted to explore the beautiful ball rooms, which are kept locked, so one late night we inquired about viewing those rooms. With a little prodding we were taken up to the secured rooms and given a private "ghost tour", not actually seeing or hearing any spirits present. They were spectacular and worth letting your imagination run wild. We did a little further exploration on our own but found no sign of ghosts. Just a big, sprawling old hotel with a a luscious past, helpful staff, and great proximity to culture, entertainment, and transportation. Would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I would note (although this didn't bother us) is that if you are in a room that faces the back you will hear the trains (two blocks away) go by all day and night.

Room tip: Unless you don't mind the sound of the local elevated subway trains (two blocks away) choose a room that does not face the back.

"Sercurity" just came to our room for "loud talking" and we weren't even talking! You really need to retrain your staff! That is ridiculous! I was watching a YouTube video which wasn't even loud at all and then my cousin was playing a game which didn't even have noise to it. Yet apparently that is too loud. This is the second time I've stayed here and I never will again I would rather pay extra and stay somewhere else. Rude security coming to your room for either something they heard from another room or just thought they heard, and then internet that constantly disconnects and it difficult to get it to work again. Then when I told the security we wasn't even talking he says "I heard it I'm not stupid"... Well I don't know what you heard but it wasn't me. Retrain your staff! Horrible stay!

Old hotel, refurbished. Wifi not too bad. If yr device can't connect, go to counter and they will give u a guest user and pw. Gym third floor pretty decent. No pool. Warm water and toilets good. Towels and sheets clean. Easy to locate. Not bad. But old. U pay for what you get.

Worth the price I paid for. Got a crappy room initially with the ac not working but then after my repeated attempts they changed my room. This place is close to a lot of attractions and the station. I booked this place via priceline and got a good rate.
