This is a brand new hotel with very few regular hotel amenities! It may be “IN” for hipster types who are not accustomed to typical hotel stays. Examples: No closet hanging space for clothing ( a few knobs), no chair ( a small canvas camp stool), large farm sink(no space for toiletries or makeup at the sides), if you’re getting out of shower wet, there is no space for drying off and getting clothing on , no desk or table ( only a TV tray?). We stayed in a room with twin beds (army blankets instead of bedspread) and small night stand. If you sit at end of bed it will tip as bed is perched on a platform. No coffee in room. The lobby is a bar catering to young people’s happy hours. No check in other than at bar. No newspapers. The hosts were obsessed with moving the tables and bar stools into neat arrangements and keeping the many board games on top of each table in attractive places and organizing cubes. Not a typical lobby for guests. Zombie tacos provided good snacks and coffee. The luggage carts are awkward and don’t roll over thresholds.

Hello Nancy,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about your recent stay at the Moxy Chicago. We are upset to hear that you didn’t enjoy your visit but we appreciate the honest feedback. We clearly missed the mark in some areas, most importantly with your lack of comfortability in your room. We are a brand new hotel and appreciate all feedback, good and bad. We are so sorry that you didn't have an amazing experience at the Moxy Chicago. We hope to welcome you back one day, even if it’s just for a bit to eat at Zombie Taco!

Again thank you for your vauable feedback.

Peace. Love. & Moxy.

This is a new property that just opened in downtown Chicago. The Moxy brand is mainly targeting young people with its ultra modern design and amenities. It is rather a minimalist hotel but with shiny sparking design.

Location: few blocks from Michigan Avenue with many places to shop and eat in the vicinity.

Lobby: check in is actually at the bar. Lobby feels more like a big living room with huge windows that open fully to the exterior.

Staff: very enthusiastic and friendly staff. I can tell that they are really working hard to give this hotel a kick start by managing people’s highest expectations.

Rooms: room was small but this wasn’t unexpected. This wasn’t a problem for me. As expected for new property, everything in the room was new and shiny. The bed mattress was super firm not what you usually expect at a Marriott chain. It wasn’t very comfortable to sleep on.

Conclusion: for what it is advertised, this hotel meets expectations for its category and price point. For older folks, this might not be a best match, yet it can be an enjoyable experience.

Stayed for 2 nights with a large work group. Our event was located at The Merchandise Mart, so the location was perfect (easy .25 mile walk from the mart).
The hotel and staff have great energy! A Moxy signature cocktail is offered at check-in and board games are located all over the lobby. When I'm greeted with a cocktail and Battleship, I'm sold. All hotel staff was pleasant and helpful.
The lobby proved to be a great hangout/meeting location for our large group.
The rooms were small but EFFICIENT. I will say, if you're traveling alone on business and plan to primarily work out of your room, this may not be your best choice as there is no true desk. If you're able to work in bed or enjoy the communal lobby I would recommend this hotel for the experience and ambiance.

Stayed here for business. I get the casual vibe and the bar as the lobby with loud music and shiny purple lights. Reminded me of Le Meridien in Vienna.
However, contrary to the Meridien, in room there was no closet, no desk, no iron, no water, no fridge, ... in a very cramped space. It made me realize I am staying at a hotel geared towards a much younger crowd and certainly not at a business traveler. If I had only a backpack and thought it was cool to have the bartender check you in, certainly OK. But I believe that type of patron cannot afford this.
If you are on business, this is NOT the place for you.
Location very decent.

Hello ICUR,

Thanks for your review; we are sorry our room layout & music wasn't the right vibe for you. We know that the Moxy isn't for everyone, but we love that you gave us a chance! While we may not be your style, we hope you have you back for a fun weekend get away or for a few drinks at Bar Moxy! Marriott’s new offering to the Chicago Loop scene is the Moxy Hotel. A very hip, modern vibe that is cute but may not be for every traveler! I walked into what appears to be a bar and that’s exactly what it is and where you check in. Staff is very nice and helpful but I discovered that I really value comfort and space after working 10 hours over music and a drink! To say the rooms are small is an understatement- they are TINY - shower stall is by the queen size bed and sink is next to that. There was no desk but a dinner tray. There wasn’t even an info book to tell me where the gym was. No carpet but wood floors, a kind of industrial feel. There was a 24 hour restaurant/market which was very nice.
I don’t want to say this is a negative review but rather hope it warns travelers that if accommodations matter, this may not be for you. If you want a place to sleep and shower, this is it!

Heyy Patricia!

Thanks for the review & showing us the love on our hip vibes & most importantly out 24 hour tacos! But we’re bummed that you felt we didn’t measure up in terms of the room size for you. We know we aren’t your traditional hotel experience, but we love that you gave us a try! We hope to have you back soon, business or pleasure.

Peace. Love & Moxy.
