My husband, child and myself stayed here for two nights. The hotel lobby is beautiful and is in the old fashion. The peacock doors are a must see. The rooms only had a desk chair, so no relaxing chair. There is a Starbucks downstairs which is great for breakfast to take to the room. There are a lot of homeless people asking for money, the hotel staff very rudely runs them off. The cleanliness is questionable as there were two trays left outside rooms for about 36 hours. The hotel staff are kind of rude. The self parking is across the street and is $50 a night. They also charge $100 per night extra for 3 people to be in a room. Nice hotel but not worth the money.

The Palmer House is in a great Loop location. There are numerous restaurants, bars, and stores in and around the property. The Art Institute is just a block away, and Millennium Park is just a couple blocks away, too.
We were here for a conference, and noted our HHonors status on our reservation.
Upon check-in, I asked if we were on a HHonors floor. We were not, but the clerk offered to upgrade us to an "executive floor/status" for $50 per night (plus extra taxes). I thought that was a bit pricey, but the upgrade came with entry to a lounge where continental breakfast, snacks, sodas, fruit, and evening appetizers were served, so we took the upgrade. We were pleased with those amenities, and figured out the schedule for the different services offered at different times. We couldn't take advantage of all of the offerings due to our schedules, but we could go up and grab an apple any time.
The room was nice, and even though we couldn't get a corner room, which we prefer, the noise from the adjacent rooms was not an issue.
My disappointment came with the checkout - 11am! We were here for a conference - at this hotel. We were involved with a presentation that morning that wouldn't see us getting back to the room until 12:30. I checked with the HHonors rep at the front desk and was told that as an accommodation, we could check out at noon, for no extra charge. That was helpful, but since we wouldn't be back in the room until after noon, it didn't solve the issue. Of course, we were told to check out early and put all of our luggage in the Bell check. Right...when you're getting dressed up to present what you want to do is pack up and check out before you are even done with the event. Plus, we have a 4.5 hour trip after we leave to go back home...and getting into travel clothes, rather than business attire was our preference. We were told that we could pay another $25 (plus extra taxes) and then checkout would be extended to 1pm. REALLY?? Thanks a lot. I think that as a mid-level HH member, who already paid extra for an upgrade for two nights, we could've gotten a 1pm check out without coughing up more money. Sure left a bad taste for what was, in many other ways, an enjoyable stay.

This lovely hotel is one of the oldest in the country, with elegant features that must be seen to be believed. Located within the loop, it is in a convenient location for touring downtown Chicago with a minimum of effort. The staff is efficient, polite, and friendly. The in-hotel restaurant serves delicious meals, and the bar in the lobby has a variety of offerings to please most everyone. We truly enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: Quiet floors appear to be those in the teens, but corner suites are larger than most.

Loved this hotel, got upgraded to the most beautiful room on the executive floor, we felt like princesses. I did not want to leave but had to go to Lisbon and the rest of our trip. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Chicago.

This is a hotel with plenty of history and character yet provides all services expected of a modern hotel. The standard room had plenty of space and a comfortable bed. Staff friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again if I ever return to Chicago.
