Owner description: The Robie House on the University of Chicago campus is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture. It was created by Frank Lloyd Wright for his client Frederick C. Robie, a forward-thinking businessman. Designed in Wright's Oak Park studio in 1908 and completed in 1910, the building is both a masterpiece of the Prairie style and renowned as a forerunner of modernism in architecture. Tours of the site offer both a first-hand experience of its amazingly contemporary spaces and the current restoration work that is returning the house to its original appearance. Public tours are available Thursday - Monday. The museum is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Social events and family programs are hosted on weekends throughout the year. Robie House is also available for facility rentals and special events. Visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust website to learn more.

Unfortunately the interior of the house was being renovated. But the exterior is stunning. A building that I have wanted to see for many years. Amazed at the setting, although a corner plot the other two sides really crowd the building, but I could ignore that. Guide was very knowledgeable about the area not so much the architecture. The house is adjacent to the University of Chicago campus. This is one of the finest houses in American Architecture.

This is an amazing house, and an prime example of Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie style. Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. I would rate this higher except for two things: 1. Because of the tight scheduling, I felt rushed as we went through the home. 2. A large part of the home was being renovated and was inaccessible.

We didn't do a formal tour but just caught the metro train to Oak Park station where a map guided us to the various Frank Lloyd Wright homes and his outstanding Unitarian (?) Church. We followed a map that was on the wall of the station to get to the Church where we paid for a self guided tour (well worth it) and bought a map of all other FLW homes in the neighbourhood. We then walked around for a few hours admiring them from the street. We also visited his home and its very interesting shop.

This home is one of the most important FLW homes and a must see when vising the Chicago area. I love the educational area in the basement where we tried out some math and architecture toys. The stained glass windows are so beautiful on a sunny day. Make time to explore the neighborhood too.

This home is stunning, and the tour (although not long) will give you a lot of information - whether you know the person and his designs or not. The tour guides were great and VERY knowledgeable, and the home and its grounds are wonderfully preserved. Smaller kids found it rather tedious (it really is more an adult thing to enjoy).
