Stone Mountain, like Mount Rushmore, has carvings in the Mountain. They have a laser show most of the year and it is awesome.

Most of what we visit closes early, but the park is open later. The was a great walk-stop-look place. You pay a parking fee to get in. You can get your steps in for sure.

I must see! Spend the day and do everything! The view from the top is breathtaking. Just sit up there a while and just look around. Learned a lot and kids had fun. Laser show was about 45 mins. Take chairs, blankets, and pack a picnic. Great to see family's playing cards or throwing a frisbee while waiting on the show.

Went to visit Stone Mountain with the sole intention of viewing this carving. We were told the history of the carving and toured the museum, but the carving overall left a lot to be desired. To begin, the carving is EXTREMELY dirty, and it's very difficult to actually distinguish the relief carving from the dirt surrounding it. When asked how often the relief was cleaned or touched up, the staff seemed confused by this question as though it never occurred to them. I'm not sure why the relief is so dirty, whether it's from acid rain, runoff from the buildings at the top of the mountain, or what. However, they need to institute a method of cleaning it so that the carving is at least discernible among the rest of the mountain. I've seen other photos where the carving is clean, so I know it must occur.

Overall, the carving and the history behind it are really cool, but I wish that the carving was maintained better so that it could really be the masterpiece it was intended to be.

This is impressive if for nothing but the size and skills involved in it's making. It's especially cool to see it closer while riding up the mountain in the skylift. They say one finger on the carving is the size of a sofa and the top of the horse's head big enough to fit two school buses! Even if you're not a fan of the historical aspects of the park, there is plenty to do here at the park! We didn't want to leave!
