Lovely, easy hike to the waterfalls. It's less than a 1/2 mile mostly uphill with a couple of places to sit and rest along the way for small children and the elderly. Lovely stream running along side most of the way. Very shady and cool path. A lot of people seemed to have done the inner tubing in Helen, Ga (about 1 mile away - store in right on main strip) where they float down the river and then bus you back wet to your car :} and where they purchased "sticks" so they could push their inner tubes off the rocks when they got stuck. Then they used the sticks as walking sticks for the uphill hike at the twin falls. I would recommend doing it the opposite way...start at the falls in the early am, stop to get some boiled peanuts, then walk around Helen, Ga for a while sightseeing, have an authentic German lunch, then go inner tubing in the late afternoon, finally sit outdoors in a beer garden for a cold refreshing beer and listen to music while you finish drying off. Plan on spending a day here, very cute and worth it. For longer trips / hikes, go a little further to Amicalola Falls for real hiking, etc
PS read some of the other reviews and it was a bit confusing...but if you are just going to the Falls at Unicoi...you just follow signs to the Falls and you tell the Unicoi gate person you are going to the falls (no payment) then proceed to the federal park where you pay the entrance fee (if I remember correctly it was like $3-5 per person, children free) and thats it (no parking fees etc).
