The perfect 'get away from it all' place. Off the beaten track, but well worth seeking it out as the views are breathtaking. The houses which have been refurbished have been finished to the highest quality, with excellent attention to detail. Down a rocky path, you find the pool and air chairs among the olive groves - ideal for lounging with a glass of wine. George (the owner) could not be more welcoming or helpful - from meeting us in the local town and piloting us in to the property, to recommending places to eat, his knowledge of the area is second-to-none. Abruzzo is truly an undiscovered part of Italy, but one which I cannot wait to return to and explore further, based on the week I just had there. My only piece of advice is that the property is not really suited to families with small children - some of the gravel paths are quite steep as the property really is on the side of a steep hill. However, in general, I cannot recommend the masseria highly enough and I would certainly book another holiday there.
It is great to know you can still get off the beaten track and not have to compromise on comfort. A direct flight from Stanstead to Pescara and a straightforward hour long drive and you arrive at Masserie.
I was not disappointed. You could instantly relax as everything had been thought of. The owner, George has carefully resorted this hillside village. Creating modern, stylish apartments out of a derelict hamlet. It looks like he still has plenty to do as he gradually develops the buildings whilst keeping the rural charm.
The views are breathtaking and to open the shutters each morning and see Italian life as it always has been is very special.
You will quickly fall in love with Cristabel, George's dog and the swimming pool. How they built it there is impressive as it is cut into the hill amongst the olive trees. It is steep so you would not want to be staying there with young children or elderly parents.
I will definitely be going back and I highly recommend spending time in the local town Casoli and visiting the beaches which are about 30 mins away.
This place is the definition of Unspoilt Italy.
This is a wonderfully relaxing place, high on a remote hillside in Italy's undiscovered countryside. Sympathetically restored by George, the owner. High recommended!
