Although little remains of the Mission the reconstructed buildings, together with the costumed players/guides located in each location, brought the history to life and allowed me to easily visualize the Mission as it was.

Having lived in Tallahassee in the 70's, I was simply stunned at Mission San Luis which opened after I left. Visiting for the day, this was a totally unexpected surprise. Very well done recreations and fascinating history lesson.

This place was a big surprise for all of us!! We did not expect it to be so big and well presented. The Apalachee Tribe Meeting House is truly remarkable in size and in the finished product. The archeological findings are explained in the outdoor recreation of the buildings and surroundings from the 1500s in a wonderful way. There is a lot of walking as it is 35 acres in size. The paths and walkways were nice and easy to traverse. There are many benches for resting and huge trees for shade on hot days! They do have a warming and cooling room to visit when weather is very cold or hot outside which we thought was great. After wondering through all of the buildings ( meeting house, church, forge, outside gardens, friars home and kitchen, fort and other places) there is a very nice small museum inside the entrance building. An introductory film is also shown in the entrance building adjacent to the gift shop. The children loved the nature trail too! We were there about 3 - 4 hours.

This is how taxpayer money should be spent!Beautiful grounds, intelligent staff who stay in character at their different stations, and a very well maintained facility. If you have 2-3 hours to spare in Tally, and even remotely appreciate history, this is the place to go.
