Just back from another fabulous stay in E201! This two-bedroom + den condo has become our “go-to” for an annual family vacation for four. The location simply cannot be beat. Gulf-front with a wrap-around lanai offering views of the beach and pool are a huge selling point. We love sitting on the lanai for morning coffee or taking in the views in the evening. You are literally steps from the beach and pool when you walk out the door. In addition, the condo is centrally located on the island, so all the shopping and dining can be easily accessed by car or bike! This is a place for relaxation, soaking up the sun and appreciating the natural environment. If you’re looking to party, this isn’t the place for you.
The condo features two bedrooms (one king and one with two double beds), plus a den that can be closed off with two accordion doors for added privacy. Honestly, the den pullout sofa bed is the best seat in the house with a memory foam mattress! Two full baths make it convenient for larger groups. The kitchen is decently stocked with plates/cups/utensils, but you’ll probably want to stock up on extra paper towels, garbage bags, toilet paper, dish soap and other paper goods on your way over to the island. If you plan to take drinks to the pool or beach, grab plastic cups as well as no glass is allowed and the condo doesn’t have any reusable plastic ware. The refrigerator has an icemaker and also three ice trays, and there’s a 12-cup coffee maker for your use.
They stock you with a decent amount of towels, but plan to have to do laundry mid-week if you’re there for a week’s stay. Bringing a roll of quarters isn’t a bad idea, as the laundry (located on the same floor as the condo just down the building a bit) doesn’t have a change machine. You’ll also need to pick up laundry detergent if you plan to do more than two loads with the small packets that are stocked upon arrival.
The condo is located in the Sundial complex, which is part of a resort. In order to use the resort pool (main pool) and facilities, there is a daily fee. However, you do not need to do so to use the pool right outside the condo (which is a bit quieter and nicer!) or to go to the tiki bar, restaurants, etc. Tennis and pickleball are available for a fee, as are bike rentals, kayaks and more. Turtles Tiki Bar is a favorite(!) with daily happy hour specials that can’t be beat.
The Sanibel beaches are beautiful and the various island organizations work hard to maintain and preserve them in their natural state. It hosts some of the best shelling you’ll find anywhere. Don’t take any live shells! Check to be sure the shell is empty before taking it home with you. Live shelling is strictly prohibited. During turtle nesting season (May-October), make an effort to keep as many lights off in the unit to keep the beach as dark as possible, and do not use flashlights down on the beach to help keep the turtles safe. Sanibel offers such a unique environment not found elsewhere in which you can experience nature at its finest. Please help keep it that way so it can be enjoyed for years to come!
We recently stayed in E-201 during our week-long trip to Sanibel Island and loved every minute of it! The two-bedroom (plus den) condo was perfect for our family of four adults. We had plenty of room with the master bedroom king size bed, second bedroom with a queen and double, and “den” area, which closes off from the living area with accordion doors and has a very comfy (!) pull out sofa. No spring or bars in your back with this one!
The condo is direct gulf-front and has amazing views of the beach and pool. It is just steps from both. The location could not be more convenience; any time we needed a drink or wanted to grab a snack, we just ran up to the condo from the pool. With the wrap-around lanai, you never feel like you’re “missing out” on time outdoors because it is all right there to enjoy. The patio furniture on the lanai is very nice as well.
The kitchen was well-stocked with essentials: plates, cups, mugs, silverware, pots and pans, etc. The basic paper products are supplied through VIP Realty, but I’d definitely recommend picking up extra paper towels, toilet paper and tissues on your way in. Two powder laundry detergent packets are also supplied, along with a few dishwasher tabs. We picked up laundry soap for $2 at Publix on the way over from the airport for added convenience, along with some plastic cups for out by the pool/beach. As a side note, the ice-maker works very well in this unit. We bought bags of ice for backup, but really didn’t need to.
Bath towels are included; depending on how many people you have, I’d plan on having to launder them at least once during your stay. Washer/Dryers are right in the building (toward the middle) so bring some quarters with you (no change machines). Hangers were also supplied.
There’s a closet right in the front hall, which we did not discover until halfway through the week, filled with beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys and more! Also the lower cabinet just inside the “den” has games and puzzles, which we also utilized!
It was glorious leaving the doors to the lanai open every night and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. We will absolutely rent from Ellen and Harris again.
A few “Island” tips:
- Our favorite on-island restaurant is the Island Cow! A vast menu with something to please everyone and extremely friendly service, PLUS $1.99 “draft of the day” beer!
- Turtles tiki bar at the Sundial main pool has happy hour from 3-5pm everyday. Worth stopping for a tropical pina colada to get on “island time.”
- If you’re looking to rent bikes, call up Finnimore’s instead of Billy’s Bikes. You’ll save a bundle and they deliver.
- If you’re traveling to the island from May though October, turn off your lights at night or close the blinds! It’s turtle nesting season and we can all help by doing our part to ensure their safety.
