Recommended length of visit: <1 hour
Owner description: For nearly a century, the St. Petersburg Museum of History has shared the stories of the Sunshine City with visitors and residents alike. Stroll through the Sunshine City Gallery to learn the history of St. Petersburg – from pioneers and trains to World War II and World Famous Webb’s City. Don’t miss the Flight One Gallery, detailing the birth of commercial aviation right here in St. Petersburg, and see the first passenger aircraft that flew across the bay to Tampa – a trip that used to take hours before the W. Howard Frankland and Gandy bridges were built. The world's largest collection of signed baseballs was donated by local resident Dennis Schrader. The permanent exhibit features original documents, story boards and video screens connecting America’s national pastime with historical events from the region and around the world. Visit St. Petersburg’s oldest resident – an authentic 3,000-year-old Egyptian mummy as well as a replica of King Tut’s Tomb.

What I remember best about this museum is the long history of marketing St Petes for its warm climate and water access. I came away thinking that the economic basis has changed little since the city was founded. I guess there were fish camps early on, and of course the native inhabitants did not sell real estate. Don't misinterpret - it was interesting for sure, and worth a visit. There is quite a lot a baseball stuff too which we pretty much skipped since there was not that much time till closing. This is a good stop for a first time visitor to the city.

This is an interesting museum with information on the history of flight in St. Petersburg, and a good exhibition of photographs from various wars, but the real attraction is an exhibition of hundreds (or maybe thousands) of baseballs autographed by famous teams and players. If you are a baseball fan, this is a must visit.

This was a smaller museum but enjoyed learning about the history of St. Petersburg. The special exhibit of the solders thru pictures was very interesting. I also enjoyed the story of the first commercial flight.

Loved visiting with the curator who recently acquired a special collection of a photography collection of American wars. That & the airline collection plan were very educational.
