From the beginning of the day, to the very last swim... our family day was perfect! We took our two boys, 10 and 8. We booked the dolphin swim experience... worth every penny! We will be going back! Arrive at opening, enjoy breakfast and get to know the park. We spent most of our day in the freshwater portion of the park, but the saltwater swimming with fish was so much fun!

I bought my tickets to Discovery Cove through a 3rd party website. The offer is the same for all though. Buy a day at Discovery Cove get 14 consecutive days at SeaWorld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens Tampa.
Discovery Cove was awesome! I wish the deal was 14 days at Discovery Cove. It was so relaxing but extremely fun at the same time. The Grand Reef had plenty of saltwater action, beautiful fish and lively rays. The Fresh water Oasis was my favorite because you're just floating around in a tropical paradise. The plants and landscaping were breathtaking.
There is a lazy river and a bird aviary that were good as well. Watch out for the waterfalls along the river!
We didnt opt to swim with dolphins but we were able to watch hundreds of folks take part in that excursion right from our beach chairs. There is lots of shade but ample opportunity to catch some Florida sun if that's your thing.
Everything is included in the entry price so we figured the breakfast and lunch would be mediocre at best but surprisingly the food was really good. Not a huge selection of snacks but ok. A decent selection of adult beverages too.
All in all my family had a blast from me, the oldest, down to my 9 year old grandson.

Totally worth the ridiculous $1400+ for the day for a family of 4. As ridiculous as that sounds, this place is like no other! It’s like snorkeling in an aquarium! Of course it would be best to be in a real reef but this provides a truly hands on interactive experience in a safe environment. And it’s a fabulous escape from the hot days at a Disney. The grounds were clean and never felt over run with tourists. The lazy rivers were beautiful. The animals were well cared for. Here are a few random thoughts:
- food not great but edible and they do offer gluten free options
- the thick sunscreen is just ridiculous. I buy organic and apparently reef safe sunscreen, it’s all a little thick. BUT this sunscreen is unbearable and basically I burst out laughing when my husband applied some. Bring a non toxic and safe sunscreen of your own.
-one of the pools offers lounge chairs in the pool - that’s the best way to battle the heat
-check the animal hut at various intervals- we got to pet an armadillo and a sloth
- pay for the dolphin swim and skip the shark swim. You can see the sharks through a glass in the pool while snorkeling with the rays and fish

We had this on our bucket list...to bring our daughter when she was old enough...because we had done it as a couple years ago.
The check in process was a bit tiresome. We arrived at 7:00 and had to wait in a line to be checked in. And for some reason, check in took longer than expected.
The breakfast was just ok. Nothing spectacular. Gluten free options were available and staff accommodating...took a bit longer though and always needed to consult with a chef.
The breakfast line was long. We sat outside to eat and birds were waiting to take our food as soon as we turned away. The staff was very quick to help clear trays.
Dolphin experience. Our check in person had no personality. This was something we had been looking forward to and the woman processing our group would have been better suited for a position at a public assistance office rather than a resort style experience. Grumpy, rude, unpleasant.
The person leading the dolphin groups was nice and friendly thankfully. My nine year old daughter enjoyed the dolphin interactions...she was actually intimidated by the dolphins and they had her interact with an older more docile dolphin when it was her turn.
Lazy river...great! Warm, fun, long...best lazy river around. We had to get out due to thunder/lightening risks a couple times, but really nice!
Aviary...good. Birds would come to our hands. Felt like there were a lot of people there and birds weren’t hungry. In my memory, when we went years ago, this was more fun. Felt less amazing this time around.
Snorkeling...amazing. But water is cold (be forewarned that it’s cooler because the fish are in there and it needs to be a certain temperature). The snorkel equipment is provided. My daughter enjoyed this! They give life vests to use and this was helpful.
Lunch...just ok. Nothing stellar.
Alcohol is included but I don’t drink. We enjoyed the slushy machines and snacks though!
Showers were clean; bathrooms clean. Lockers and sunscreen provided.
Suggestion: wear water shoes! We had them and were so thankful. The sand was hot and the lazy river had rough rocks at times.
Overall: it is a beautiful facility, a more relaxing day than a theme park, a fun day...it’s expensive, but worth a trip there at some point and admission to other sea world parks within two weeks of trip is included. So you can also do sea world for the admission price, making it more reasonable.
