“For a quiet getaway - truly exceptional location, accomodations and amenities”
Reviewed 13 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Sunset Dreams was true to its name. Dan's home on Captiva was a wonderful experience for our extended family vacation. I was looking for a home to accommodate four generations of my family – our parents in their 80’s, my sister and I, my niece and husband in their 30’s, a 3 year old and infant. We all enjoyed the spectacular beach on the gulf, views and amenities. The toughest decision we had to make in the morning was whether to hit the beach first or head to the pool and jacuzzi in the tropical oasis behind the house; most days we’d do both several times! The proximity of the villa to the beach or pool for the elders and youngsters was invaluable. The red wagon to transport chairs, umbrellas and sand toys was so thoughtful and just an example of the amenities. Nice having the shower near the garage area to rinse off the salt and sand and a gas BBQ by the pool area. The house comfortably fit 8 and had great spaces in the house to retreat to read, hang out, watch tv or play videos games without disturbing others in the group. In no way felt crowded. We loved walking on the beach, finding conch and gorgeous seashells.
This section of the beach is quiet and full of wildlife. We were fortunate enough to see dolphins passing nearly daily and even watched them swim by us about 20 feet away one afternoon. Excellent birdwatching – brown pelicans abound in the morning and sandpipers in the afternoon. The beach is great for all ages and shallow for quite a bit for easy swimming. We rented stand-up paddle boards from YOLO to which you could walk on the beach; great guys run the place and they have quite a selection of other equipment and activities. The location and house exceeded expectations - I will definitely be returning.
We’d have coffee on the rear 3rd floor lanai early in the morning to watch the sunrise over the palm trees on the bayside, lunched on the 2nd floor lanai in the shade, and in the evening watched the sun just melt into the gulf from either of the front porches or on the beach just steps across the road from the house. We even stargazed from the new porch on the upper level which the neighboring villas don’t have. The kitchen design was so well thought out and appointed we ended up going out just once the first night as we didn’t have supplies. We had a great time cooking together, which was actually less stressful than going to a restaurant with a party of 8. There are plenty of restaurants, such as the Mucky Duck or Bubble Room, within minutes by car or foot. The Island Store in town has a little bit of everything, but we stocked up at Costco & Publix in Ft. Myers.
The master suite on the third floor has spectacular views of the gulf from bed and an amazing bathroom nearly as large as the bedroom. The entire house is so tastefully decorated with an open floor plan – looks like a page out of the Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel catalog. The windows in the living room really allowed everyone to take advantage of the views throughout the day.
In terms of amenities, there were plenty of games to play in the evening for all ages- loved the game table near the front windows. Televisions are well placed throughout the house and AC worked well. We also loved the high-end waffle maker and Keurig. The elevator helped in moving luggage up to the third floor, as well as having our parents avoid the stairs once in the while. Kingfisher property managers were also very responsive during our stay. The house, in particular the bathrooms and kitchen, were clean when we arrived, had comfy beds, nice bedding and very tasteful décor. Many thanks to Dan for sharing his home and to Kingfisher for maintaining Sunset Dreams impeccably. My husband and children are jealous that their schedules didn’t enable them to share the experience. Looking forward to another visit to create more memories!

“BEAUTIFUL house, perfect beachfront, wonderful place to stay”

The decor was fresh and newly done. Wonderful colours and attention to detail. Kitchen well supplied and dishes matched decor. Bedrooms clean, pretty and comfortable. Sunsets beautiful. Pool secluded in greenery. Docks at back busy with dolphins, fish, birds and boats of many kinds.
Didn't shop on mainland and once there, did not leave. Fine restaurants nearby and groceries pricey but we ate well.
I hope to return.

“Beautiful spot for a relaxing getaway: everything you need is there!”

This was our second stay at Sunset Dreams, and we love it. The owner has equipped this house with everything you need for a few days or a few weeks. We've stayed many places on Captiva, and this is the place with the best kitchen, living room, dining room, games, TVs, music options, and beach chairs and toys. We don't have to bring anything with us from home. We've received very attentive service from Dan and the folks at Kingfisher. The elevator is such a help with luggage and groceries. We love the variety of special spots at this house: the deck overlooking the beach, the lanai off the master bath, the lanai off the main floor king. There's a peaceful place for everyone. The hot tub/heated pool is our "go to" spot following the sunset on the beach, especially if we are using the gas grill. Our favorites are the great beach and sunset views from the living room and from the upstairs deck. We ride our bikes and walk nearly everywhere we go. Sunset Dreams is a perfect spot for a Captiva beach getaway!

“Nice place but shows significant signs wear and tear”

After an extensive search of properties in the area we chose Sunset Dreams. A little more than we wanted to spend but the photos make this place look amazing.

Booking was very easy, the owner Dan and the folks at Kingfisher made it very easy. Prior to our stay we received and e-mail with a very comprehensive overview of the property and Captiva Island which was a huge help.

The location is fantastic, directly across the street form the beach and within walking distance of just about every restaurant on the island. We have two small kids to we drove however we were never int he car for more than 3 min to reach our destination.

Upon entering the property the place looked as it does in the photos... Within minutes I noticed the slip cover couches and chair were stained, the finish on the dark hardwood floor was wearing off isn some areas, the base boars had not been cleaned in probably a year and some of the chairs actually had ripped covers on them...

Needless to say I was not happy but I elected not to call and complain trying to focus on a family vacation and not the cleanliness of the property. My wife and I spent the next two hours cleaning...

Ultimately I did decide to contact the owner and the property management company. Within minutes I received a call form the owner. Dan assured me he would handle the problem. He did just that.

The next morning the furniture was steam cleaned and a cleaning crew showed up to clean the base boards. This helped a lot however the fact remains this is a rental house and it shows.

It all boils down to expectations, when you are paying a lot of $ for a property you expect a lot. Although the property did not meet my expectations I would stay again just not at the price I paid.

If you are considering this property I say go for it. We enjoyed our stay and the owners willingness to make things right goes a long way.

Management Response
29 Jul 2014
Thank you! We appreciated the feedback and were happy to address the concerns immediately. A note to all renters, if the property you rent isn't clean to your 100% satisfaction call the management company, they will be happy to get the cleaners back out. We were very disappointed to hear that both the cleaning company and our check in inspector didn't do a thorough job finding spills and damage from the previous renter assuring the quality we expect for the next client. Both have been replaced so we are confident are clients will continue to experience the quality as all the other reviews have expressed.
Sincerely,
Dan Sierra

From the reviews I had read, I had high expectations of this vacation home. All of them were met and more! Communication with owner and rental company was excellent. The home is beautifully decorated. My family of seven was very comfortable - it is very roomy. We especially loved the two separate family areas. Gorgeous sunsets and just a few steps from the home to the beach. You will not be disappointed!
