We stopped at Theatre of the Sea so our 17 and 15 year old sons could swim with the dolphins. It was the highlight of their trip! The trainers were so enthusiastic and you could tell they love what they do. The shows were very well done-do not miss the dolphin show! The trainer during the dolphin swim made all the participants feel comfortable with the activities and provided great instructions. Our sons had an awesome experience!

A half day can be spent here. I recommend checking on their daily schedule the day before. If possible go first part of day or in early afternoon to avoid the heat of the latter part of the day. General admission includes a cool boat ride with dolphin education, sea lion edutainment show, dolphin edutainment show, viewing of sting rays and turtles, parrots, and you can swim in the lagoon if you wish. This is the 2nd oldest marine attraction in the world! It utilizes an old rock quarry site from the 1930's but you would never know that is what this lush tropical paradise once was if the tour did not tell you about it. I highly recommend adding on one of the animal encounters. I would suggest the sea lion encounter. They offer various levels. We did the out of water encounter and got to perform tricks, get hugs, get kisses, get "hand" shakes from these awesome creature. It feels very natural and not forced. Concessions are available. You can also come and go throughout the day with your wrist band and/or receipt. We did this and ate lunch at Mrs. Mac's in Key Largo. Shopped at Kmart and CVS. Took a brief rest and then finished out the day at Theater the Sea.
