We chose the guided tour and were lucky enough to get ?? as a guide. (Why can’t I remember his name??) However, if your tour guide looks like Robert Irvine, chef and TV personality, take a sigh of relief, you’re in for a great tour. I apologize to the tour guide that I forgot his name, but he was excellent. He relayed many stories and we almost felt as if we were there when Edison and Ford were. As a warning, most everything with the guided tour is outside, so dress appropriately, lather up the sunscreen and hydrate. I bought a nice sun-hat in the gift shop! The grounds were well maintained and it was sad to hear the devastating effect Hurricane Irma had on the grounds last year. We were told that we could come back within a week and the audio tour would be free. We ended up returning the next day and there was some confusion over the ‘free’ audio tour, but eventually that was straightened out. We enjoyed strolling the grounds and listening to the audio tour. The inside museums (air-conditioned!!) were interesting, but there is a lot to see in one day, if you enjoy reading the displays. We look forward to returning and may take one of the specialty tours.

If you are a veteran, you and your immediate family got in for free on Memorial Day. This is a wonderful historic outing, not to be missed if you're staying in the Fort Myers area. The homes, the cars, and the museum were worth at least two hours time there.

We took a guided tour and really enjoyed the history. Our guide made the stories come alive. The grounds are beautiful and we walked under a huge lychee tree that was full of fruit. I never had fresh lychee before, but we sampled the ones that were dropping to the ground. I hope this wasn't a no no.

We visited on a warm spring day, arriving early and having purchased a dual membership ahead of time even though we are not from the area. By becoming members, we saved money on the two tours we wanted to take, plus with reciprocal admissions, we will be able to visit a variety of places in other cities across the country for a year. Our first tour was the "Inside the Lab" tour, on which our small group was allowed to go into the Botanical Research Lab to see Edison's equipment close-up and learn about the fascinating work done there. After lunch at the Banyon Cafe on the grounds, a pleasant outdoor venue with a variety of quick-serve items, we opted to do the Guided Tour of the estates even though the Audio Tour came with our Lab Tour admission. The guides on both tours were engaging and knowledgeable, keeping the attention and interest of everyone in the group. Before and after tours, we spent time in the museum where there are many interesting exhibits and videos showing the lives and accomplishments of Edison and Ford. It was a very pleasant day and we learned a lot. Before going, look over the tours, some of which are only on specific days and require advance reservations. We were on the grounds for over six hours, enjoying every moment, but even shorter visits would prove interesting.

The research and development that is displayed at this estate are amazing when you think of how all of the things this pair invented came about. We loved looking at all the different plant species that are on the grounds and what they were trying to use them for.
