I find it amazing what a broad spectrum of reviews there are for this location. Some friends of our stumbled across it and we all decided to give it a try, and we are so glad we did. We've already booked another weekend for a couple months from now...

For those who do not find this location/facility to your standards, perhaps you should use the internet for something more than just being critical. Read the South Beach Inn website! It clearly states, "We are a Self Service Inn!! ...we do not provide daily maid service."

If you are looking for a housekeeper to cater to you everyday, go stay at a hotel chain. I read one of the reviews that said the Inn would not provide any extra items for your stay. This is far from the truth, as we were provided propane for the grills, horseshoes for the game, grilling utensils, extra trash bags, paper towels, etc. You just have to ask.

This place give you the feeling of being transported back to 1960s Florida - which we loved. The rooms are not carpeted and they are not fancy, but they were definitely clean. The beds were comfortable, the views were fantastic and the staff was nothing but friendly.

This is a pet friendly hotel. There were several guests who had dogs, and clean up materials were provided. Although we did not bring our dogs, it was nice to see there are locations that welcome them.

As others have said, this Inn is literally feet from the sand. The building is located right up against the sand dune.

The kitchenettes are sparse for dishware, but it's manageable. We brought paper plates and plastic cups as a matter of convenience. We also used the grills three times and the stove/range once.

I can't say anything negative about this location, except that it's an older location. Like I said before, if you aren't pretentious and can look past a little age, this is a wonderful location.

There are only two of the 2-bedroom rooms available, and they are located on the very end of the building and they are not adjoining.

Room tip: **The first floor does not have much of a view, if you're looking for a beach view. The best views are from the second floor.

For us, this location had everything. It was under $200/night, pet friendly and right on the beach.

This was our first time visiting Cocoa Beach (which we kind of selected on a whim). I used the Booking.com app to find this place and, boy, did it pick a winner. The units are all efficiencies. The appliances are dated but perfectly fine for a beach getaway. Units are small but were fine for us (couple and two Chihuahuas). Beach was less than 100 m from out front door. The property featured nice grounds with plenty of amenities (chairs, grills, toys for kids) on offer.

There's a decent seafood place (Squid Lips) about a ten minute walk away. Another local bar/restaurant (Coconuts on the Beach) has a free shuttle. About two miles north of the hotel are a cluster of pet friendly eateries.

Room tip: Second floor rooms have a view of the ocean.

We spent 5 nights wth our Pom Snickers! A great experience for all of us. Semi isolated from Cocoa Beach with a beach just out the back of the inn. THe beach was never crowded. Only a few minute drive to all the restaurants and other activities. Staff was very friendly and accomidateing. If you are traveling with a "special child" like Snickers you will be pleased. All the rooms have kitchens and there is an outside grill that is yours to use. We will be back!!!!

My husband and I decided we needed a beach getaway on short notice - about 2 weeks before our week of holiday in February 2017. After contacting a few hotels/motels in the Cocoa Beach area we decided to book at South Beach Inn (SBI) because it was 1) available, 2) on the beach, 3) is pet-friendly, and 4) in our budget for a last-minute holiday. First, the good news: Sammy, the motel host, is amazing. He is outrageously friendly and helpful and has the expertise of a local that made us feel at home. If you have a problem, e.g. running out of toilet paper, Sammy springs into action. No complaints there and in fact his quirkiness and charm and lovely little dog would almost give us a reason to go back. Second, SBI is on the beach and a few quick steps from your room. SBI has a casual no-pretense vibe that is attractive. No flash here and no need to pack your Gucci sandals. SBI is clean and on the beach ...but so are a lot of other motels, hotels, and VRBO options, take note: last-minute people. On the down-side, the view from the beach-front deck is impeded by a ridiculous railing which happens to be at eye-level when you sit on any of the Muskoka style chairs on the deck that face the ocean. SBI is really REALLY tired and is desperately in need of some TLC. My husband and I can actually afford to spend much more but we prefer to stay at local, kitschy places with character and, like when we are at home in Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario , we prefer to support local businesses versus large conglomerates. SBI should really have all of that given their location, but when you combine the broken lawn chairs with the tired and corroded fire pits, road noise, limited access to good restaurants within walking distance and near proximity of nicely appointed motels in the neighbourhood, we really struggle with the daily rate of the SBI. Lessons learned for next year - we will definitely be back to Cocoa Beach next winter BUT will book a motel well in-advance or do the VRBO thing to get more value for our money. The other thing that folks should be aware of is the demographics of SBI's return customers. SBI might be a better choice for the economically-minded clientele where Friday night BBQ and cribbage tourney's are the highlight of the week but if you are 40's or 50's age professional people just looking for a beach-front holiday week away from snow and winter gloom and with walking distance to fine dining where wine options extend beyond "red, white and pink" you should keep looking. One of the "tells" for us this past was when we saw the housekeeper mid-week and the only thing she asked us is if we needed another ashtray. We had to ask for toilet paper and paper towels and while early in the week we told Sammy we aren't fussy and don't need to have our towels and sheets replaced it would have been kind of nice if we had the option without having to ask. We've read other reviews and while we agree that people should bring their concerns to management we can say that the SBI is a good option for the last-minute traveller but we would suggest that anyone who is planning ahead would get more value for money elsewhere.

We spent a week at the South Beach Inn, December 27- January 2. If you want to know what the atmosphere is like, here is a story. On New Years Eve, some kids were shooting off some store bought fireworks, the kind you can buy at Walmart. Not too loud, don't fly. One of the managers looked at the spent fireworks, looked at the kids and adults on the deck, and said "that's what I'm talking about!".

A very relaxed feeling among the staff and guests. Great access to the ocean. We were the last room on the bottom floor (a two bedroom suite) and had incredible access to the ocean. The air conditioners kept pace with the warm weather. The kitchen is very small, but fine for a short stay. Beds were comfortable, the TV in the main area was fine, the TV in the bedroom is about 100 years old. Wi-Fi reception was fine, they fixed it pretty quickly after a hub drop out and it worked fine after.

They don't clean the rooms everyday due to their pet policy, but they provided towels/soap/TP in the office for us. We asked for a number of different items (tin foil, lighter, bowl for cooking noodles) and they gladly gave each of them to us.

As mentioned on other reviews, this is an old style motel that could use some updating, but the older furniture and overall room didn't bother us one bit.

If you are looking for a laid back, relaxing place to spend some time, the South Beach Inn is great. We will definitely give them a call the next time we are travelling to Florida!
