There is no luxury hotel on this island. For island with no actual cemented road, this hotel is already pretty good. The room is comfortable although not so big, but has separate front area to remove shoes and leave heavy bags and over coats before entering the room. This is good as the shoes maybe wet during winter or dusty during summer. The heating and water pressure are both reliable, consider an important factor especially on cold days with temperature outside more than -20c. Have big windows, so the room is not to boxy. The dining room provide simple food, not very tasty, but I won't expect gourmet food on such island anyway. There is a small spa in the hotel provide bath soak and oil massage, service is good, the massage is on the heavy side.

The personnel was unfriendly and uninterested. Most of the time they didn't notice us and looked irritated and bored. The breakfast was bad with loud music.

The bathroom was leaking and the wifi didn't work most of the time.

Dear Mr.Jasper! Thank you for staying in our hotel!
We are very upset with your opinion about our staff. You may seem so simple, because all the staff are very welcoming and friendly.
We hope that when you come to see us the next time you change your mind.
Welcome to our hotel again!

The hotel is as described by other visitors in terms of rooms. The problem is that if you come to Olchon Island and lake Baikal, you are likely to be interested in nature and you would rather wake up relatively early in the morning: but here it turns out that breakfast starts only at 8.00 (!!!) and it is impossible to apply to the 'restaurant' before that time, even for a tea and a slice of bread, despite the fact that the trays and the samovar are ready. I would say it is much more a place for organized tours with a precise schedule and for people used to follow their tour leaders than for independent travellers.

Dear Cecilia! Thank you for staying in our hotel!
We'll keep your feedback about the time of the restaurant, but this year the restaurant began to work from 8 o'clock in the morning, and it seemed to us that this is the best time for our guests. We hope to see you next time!

Baikal View has an unusual layout for a hotel: not one big building, but several rows of small, colourful wooden cabins, each with its own bathroom and, most importantly, a large window with a view of Lake Baikal. It's like a motel, minus the cars. It's also only a few kilometres from Khuzhir, so you can walk, take a (cheap) taxi or use one of the hotel shuttles during the day. There is no road to the hotel, just a track, and Olkhon's beautiful nature is literally on your doorstep - beyond the hotel grounds, it's a short walk to the shore on one side, or a hike up a hill on the other.

Everything is impeccably clean and still quite new as the hotel has only been open for a few years. You can also arrange excursions, rent a bike or book yourself a massage from a little booth opposite reception. For example, their evening boat trip with birdwatching is ideal for enjoying nature and definitely worth the 1000 rubles p.p. - we took lots and lots of photos of Lake Baikal lit up red by the setting sun. I also booked a neck and back massage, and it was very well done, in a relaxing atmosphere.

But maybe the most important thing they can arrange for you is the transfer from wherever you are before (usually, this is Irkutsk). Apparently, these transport options even include a helicopter - we booked a driver and a car, and didn't regret it: the price isn't just for the fact that you don't have to navigate five hours of bumpy roads/mud tracks yourself. The hotel also has an arrangement with the ferry that means your car goes to the head of the queue. Several fellow travellers had to wait for three or four hours because they arranged their own transfer.

A few things caveats: service varies between friendly/competent/multilingual and confused/slow - given how short the summer tourist season is, some staff probably only work in these jobs for a few weeks each year. Breakfast is nothing to write home about (heavy on meat and starch, instant coffee only), and the wifi in the rooms could do with a boost.

The most annoying thing is the noise, though: Here you are in one of the most beautiful spots Russian nature has to offer, with stunning views and a silence that is only broken by the occasional bird or cow. But on the hotel grounds, the Russian love for loud music prevails: Every meal is served to loudspeakers blaring or a one-man band playing its version of "Gangnam Style", and additional speakers make sure the outdoor pool and part of the cabin area are also covered. Add to this the groups of Chinese tourists and their habit of noisily bringing up every bit of phlegm they can, and the best advice on Baikal View is: book it for its location, it's creature comforts and the ease of making all kinds of arrangements - but do remember to pack your ear plugs.

Beautiful View from cabins, nice food, kind staff and hotel unlike anything I've encountered in Irkutsk region - very high standard. The honey cake is a must try! It's quite far from the harbour (40mins by car) but the location is beautiful and very worth it
