“Taste the silence at the only trappist beer abbey in the Netherlands”

We gave a tour in the abbey brewery as a present to our friends and joined the party. We went there on a sunny Friday afternoon and did the guided tour visiting the brewery, the abbey grounds and the bottlery, The guide told a lot about the history of the abbey and also about the beer brewing process. His did this in a funny and entertaining way and mixed Dutch with English as we had a couple of Americans in our group. We also saw a small film on the bottling process and after the tour we saw a movie in the visitors center annex tasting facility. The movie gave a good insight in the history of the abbey and the reason why this abbey was founded in the Netherlands a long time ago. The movie was subtitled in English and before it started we could select a drink from the selection of home made beers. After the visit of almost 2 hours we took a seat on the large outside terrace and ordered some more beers and delicacies including some home made cheese flavored with beer. If you want to take some stuff with you take note that the shop closes at 5 p.m. In all a very enjoyable afternoon which is worth repeating.

We were scheduled to have lunch and do a brewery tour here. It was a gorgeous day and very nice to sit outdoors having an excellent beer and something to eat. However my partner ordered a dish described as chicken and when it came, the chicken was wrapped in bacon (he does not eat pork and there was no mention of bacon in the menu description at all). The server was very gracious about taking it back and we requested a burger to replace it. That took so long to come that it was too late for us to do the tour (we also struggled to find the starting point/entry for the tour even if we wanted to do it later, so we decided to leave).

The grounds are beautiful and I'm sure the tour is fantastic, but be sure to ask for detailed descriptions of the dishes on the menu before ordering!

I ate in the restaurant outside the abbey (only cheese and blond beer), I had the tour inside the abbey with my son and, believe me, it was very relaxing and reach of informations about this wonderful brewery! The final tasting close a nice experience. congrats and thanks to the trappist friars

The brewery tour is great if you're interested in the history of Trappist beers and wish to see parts of the current brewery. We also did the "Excursion with Snacks" which provided each of us with a glass of each of their Beers and an appetizer paired to each beer. Food was almost as good as the beer!

WARNING: at the time we went (Sept 2017), tours in English were only offered on Saturdays. This is VERY CLEARLY STATED on their website. We were fortunate to have a Dutch gentleman who offered to translate for us. We went for the experience, and this made it even better.
