My husband and I selected the Lodge because it was one of the few that confirmed it had A/C and was also near hiking areas and the downtown area (and has a little convenience store across the street). However upon checking into our reserved room we found that the A/C wasn't working and that it's generally problematic (as shared by previous guests' posts once we started researching the issue). However, the General Manager and the Front Desk Manager Anthony found us a 1-bedroom unit that was cooler and had 2 doors that we could open at night to cool everything down. The 1-bedroom unit was beautiful with updated furnishings, W/D, and all of the at-home amenities plus fun local artwork and a very comfortable bed. We had a very relaxing stay and agree that in the future we'll just book the 1-bedroom units as they are worth the additional cost.

Room tip: Consider a 1-bedroom unit vs. a standard hotel room

The pictures make the unit look nicer than it is. Fabric furniture is dirty as is the carpeting. Beds are decent. Definitely needs updating and better cleaning service. Coffee table in living room was dirty and had prints and dirt on it. Kitchen table had crusted food on it from previous visitors. Pool and workout room were closed. Need to make sure I wasn’t charged a resort fee. Charged $20 a night to park in garage.

Be sure to closely review the total charges for this place through your booking agency. In our case we mistakenly assumed that "Guest Services" and "Resort Charge" were the same. They're not. For our stay we payed $20/day for parking, acceptable, PLUS $20/day for Resort Charge. Given that many if not all services are closed due to Covid restrictions this amounted to nothing more than $20/day for wifi which, had we known, we would have opted out of. Unacceptable.

If there were any other resort-y amenities we could have taken advantage of during our stay we certainly weren't aware of them. When checking in the front desk made no mention nor provided any kind of list for services or amenities.

Also be aware that at this time the lodge location, at the ski area base, is virtually abandoned except for a couple of places where one can get food, coffee, a tiny liquor store and mini-market. For anything other than bare necessities you'll have to drive to the town of Crested Butte, about 3 miles, or take the free shuttle.

Room tip: Weirdly shaped, ask for a room that faces the mountain (south) unless you are interested in looking down on the plaza.

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge Mountaineer Square for the long 4th of July weekend. We booked through Hotwire and when we arrived we were greeted with a condo that had two single beds, which was not advertised on Hotwire. We talked to a staff member, Kat, who was wonderful and understanding. She was able to get us into a suite at the Lodge, as they had just had a cancellation. The best thing about this lodge was the friendly staff, all of the staff we encountered were nice, polite, and respectful. We stayed in room 609, which was clean, updated, spacious, and comfortable. The pros of our specific room included a comfortable bed, decent bed sheets, a mini-fridge, a dishwasher, a safe, a coffee maker, toiletries, coffee, and an excellent view of the mountains and town. There was also a washer and dryer which came in handy after we got muddy and wet from the 401 trail.

The only issue we had during our stay was the air conditioner did not work for the entire weekend. We called maintenance on the night we arrived who, after an hour of tinkering, stated he repaired it. Our room, however, never got any cooler than 85 degrees for the duration of our stay. We did open the windows, however, in room 609, you have the shuttle bus right below. The shuttle runs from 8:00 am to midnight, seven days a week. The shuttle bus is ridiculously loud, and there were usually two busses idling right outside our window. So we had to choose, keep our windows open and listen to the bus rev its engine all day and all night, or keep the windows closed and just be hot. It made it seem like I was in the middle of New York City, as the busses would also beep their horns often. I wasn't able to sleep until the shuttle left until midnight when I could sleep in peace. Other than this issue, we had a nice stay. I would encourage the Lodge management to repair the air conditioning and also provide a fan in each room for guests. I would also encourage them to replace the windows with more soundproofing windows, as I am sure this is an issue for anyone staying on the same side of Lodge which has the shuttle busses. Other small issues I would also recommend to staff when considering environmental factors would be to discontinue using plastic bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The Lodge could utilize refillable containers, which could cut down on waste.

Overall we had a nice stay and we would recommend this establishment to others, but just make sure you choose a room away from the shuttle bus if you are sensitive to noise or are a light sleeper.

Room tip: Choose a room away from the shuttle bus

We stayed in 512. It is so cute. The view was perfect. The furnishing were comfortable and clean. We were steps away from the busses that take you to trail heads or shopping in town. We loved walking to town every evening.
